I agree! Ya know these Ferrari guy's should be the last people to comment on driving techniques. If they took the stick out of their **** and gold off of their necks it might help'em be a better drivers. Na probably not!

Ruf Racer,

Are you running an M5 in Nevada? I would like to run my M3 if possible.

Mail me for private contact info please! openroadracing.com is a good site for information. The promoter is now MKM Racing however the organization was founded by Roger Ward, perhaps know best for his Indy wins many moons past.
As an overview: Nevada & Texas shut down up to 100 miles of really prime state highway six times per year! You get to run as fast as you wish however safety equipment sets the speed limit you will be assigned. Beyond 165 mph driver experience comes into play as well. Watt as a "rookie" your first event would be limited to 165 mph top speed and your target average speed may not exceed 130 mph! I have run the so called "unlimited class" a couple of times. The UNL class equipment requirements include a full cage, fire bottle, multi point harness, arm restraints, fire suit and strict compliance to tire standards!
I really can't compete in that class since we have Tony Stewart's #20 (former)Home Depot car and other cars that can cruise @ 230 mph +! That isn't really what ORR is about. You may chose a "time & distance" class with a range from 95 mph average up to 180 mph average. Closest to the "ideal" time in any particular class wins. Go read the home page and check it out.
Apex. I had to run the M5 once so I installed the roll bar & did whatever I had to do to qualify the car! Best ride I ever had! Absolutely loved the M5 ride. We have lots of BMW cars show up. Team Porsche generally has at least ten cars in the field! Next event is at Battle Mountain Nevada, this month. Think Elko and you are not too far away! Anybody with an interest may shoot me an e-mail for a phone number & other contact info. BTW, the Battle Mountain road is one of the more technical roads and IMHO the best! Course record there is 185.xx mph which I know cjv's car could best with an experienced driver.

Cheers to all

Watt-Apex,Hamman 7

Go to openroadracing.com and browse. Read the rules and peek at the July event. Apex,I had to run the M5 at least once, that's why the rollbar. Best ride I ever had. Slow @ 134.x average but fun, fun, fun! Where else do you get to run ninety miles with a speed limit of (in this instance) 165 mph? The Ruf car has no speed limit since it has all required equipment ad the drivere has been qualified! Team Porsche generally fields a team of at least ten cars. There are also many BMW drivers competing. Except for the so called "unlimited division" all competitors are targeting an ideal time and may chose a class that targets an average speed between 95mph to 180 mph. It is fun. Imagine the joy of the Mini driver that aced his 110 target class with the big bux Italian car running third behind the Mini & a blown PT Cruiser? I do need to say this is an NDOT supervised event with rigid safety standards! We have approximately seventy five radios spread along the course with EMT at three stations as well as a medvac helicopter and a fully commnicatons equipped airplane! An E-mail to me will get a quick reply and personal contact information.

Cheers to all,

Roland

actually benz is the honda of europe if you want to call it that but more apt is to say it is the ford or chevy there. The best thing I have ever been told when I had an AMG, when I was out there was, " If I wanted to drive a benz or roll one I call a cab." DAh

Tyson,

I agree if you have to have a sedan, the M5 is the one, but let the Missus drive a Cayenne TT and M5 back to back and see which she picks.

Also, if you have to autocross either one the TT wins hands down, now I know you'll protest and want me to consider your fancy dancy suspension, but I'm talking stock to stock.

There is no substitute!

But if you want to block the fast lane or the canyon road at the speed limit...

Well, I will quote the great black rap philosopher Ludacris:

So if you do the speed limit, get the **** outta my way"

Hahaha... I have actually found most M5 drivers to be pretty mellow.

Instead they break their Prada or Gucci heel on my newly polished door sill because Watt gave me grief about ordering footwell lighting.

Besides, when I do get married, my wife can buy whatever she wants, as long as it's not an SUV (G-Wagen excluded).

Please explain to me how a Cayenne TT, which weighs over 1000lbs. more, and only pulls 0.82g on the skidpad with PZero Rossos (stock M5 on Dunlop 9000 pulls 0.85g, other mags have gotten 0.89g), is stock for stock a better autocrosser than an M5.

If you read the latest Car and Driver review on the Cayenne TT and their opinion from their experience running one in the One Lap of America, you will see that it is not all that flattering. They basically say that the brakes fade and the car is cumbursome to drive on the track.

If you wish, you can run your Cayenne TT on the track or in the canyon against my M5. We can even put on a friendly wager if you wish.

GT2 vs. 400hp in a 4000lb. M5. Of course it's gonna feel slow, because compared to your GT2 it is slow. But almost everything feels slow compared to the GT2. Another thing that is affecting your perception is that there is no sudden rush of torque because there is no turbo. A Turbo car will always feel faster.

As for the Volvo comment, I would rather walk or take the Metro Rapid bus around than drive a swedish piece of **** designed for liberals. I would rather die than drive a car with a "Feinstein for President" sticker. She is one of the worst things ever to happen in California.

BTW, I thought I saw you this morning driving a Honda Hybrid sporting the stickers, "WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER" and "BOXER FOR PRESIDENT." Then this afternoon, I saw you at the Volvo dealer test driving the new XC70.

And when that happens, make sure you tune that neat little suspension of yours to the max. You're gonna need it from falling off the canyon!!!
