Post Valentine One beat in radar test?

I currently own a Valentine One and have been happy with it, but found this radar test and was suprised at what they had to say. Anyone want to comment about this report?

Has the V1 been vanquished as the best?

Concerned V1 owner.

I wouldn't trust radartest.com. There is some rumors going around that they were more partial to the 8500 because they were given it free and the only company not to give them a free detector was V1. But honestly you have nothing to worry about. I took a drive up to SF and borrowed a friends 8500 to compare to my V1. And the V1 outperformed it. It caught the readings a good few seconds before the 8500.

Buddy,
I would not worry too much. If you have been happy with your V1 performance, then that's all that matters. FWIW, I am an electrical engineer and own 2 V1's.
There is a long history between Valentine and RadarTest/Peterson; so I was not very surprised by the article (which I had seen before).
Similarly, Car&Driver always ranks the V1 the highest, which makes some people wonder as well, due to the advertising $'s that Valentine pays to C&D.
It's a shame when business interests interfere wtih technology, but that's just the way it is I guess.
Drive safe,

I have heard (mostly from people on this board) that Radartest.com is run by an ex-passport employee and that passport provides "sponsorship" to the site.

Needless to say, passport models seem to trounce everything else radartest.com seems to test...hmmmmm.....

I agree the radartest.com is biased. I could not be happier with my V1. It simply is the best detector out there. A friend of mine has the Passport 8500 and my V1 consistently picks up (bogey's) radar before his every time without fail.
Plus, who can live without the arrows.

FWIW I have owned an V1, K40 and now a SR7 and ZR3 jammer. The passport has been my favorite and the jammer(shifters) have worked well. The V1 falsed a lot more then my current setup. The K40, well um I will never do that again. Here is where I set mine up. The second indicator is in the tach. It goes green/red flash.

PhD, you are too trick! I had my SR1 installed on the steering wheel column and the red light for the Lidatek installed in a blank button above the auto-wiper controller.

I admit that at 3 times the price (hard installed) of the V1, it does not perform as well, but it certainly works better than the Bel and most other brands of radar detectors. My K40 is the best radar detector I have personally ever owned...although I have never had a V1 (just heard friend's reviews).

In the future I think I would choose the V1 based on popular opinion and personal references, but I am NOT at all dis-sastisfied with the K40.

Trojan,
Agreed it is better than the run of the mil detectors, however I have owned two. You know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results
Zippy,
I never thought of the dummy panel in the dash.DOH. I guess I was looking for line of site install. The light is bright enough I bet it would have been as effective down a little bit. Trying to get the light to not run into the arm of the tach was no easy chore.

Does anyone know if there are any radar jammers that actuall work? According to radartest.com which you guys have now exposed as kind of phony people, they say none of the radar jammers actually work. They do say that the lidatek laser jammer is effective.

Inquiring minds want to know the best way to beat smokey bear!

Currently just running the V1 detector. Is the laser jammer worth installing?

Thanks!

I know that the laser jammers work. At least some of them do. Mine has saved me twice. When it comes on it screams at you. Gave me a heart attach the first time it happened.

If your radar detector has determined you are being gunned down by a laser gun, odds are the officer has a reading on you. The laser detector's only reliable function is to let you know you are getting a ticket.

There is no such thing as a commercially available RADAR jammer, only LASER jammers/diffusers...
The Lidatek is supposed to be one of the best ones out there.
