Clutch pedal noise
#16
I spoke to the dealership who I took my car to when this happend about a year ago. It seem they lubricated the throw-out bearing. The factory fills the throw-out bearing with grease, so it doesn't usually need service so many people think it is a clutch problem. The good news is the clutch doesn't need to be replaced. The bad news is the transmission needs to be dropped. A yea, the joys of owning a Porsche.....

Crap... might as well change it for a new one if it has to come out... ufff... at least the throw-out bearing, the clutch plate, and any needle bearing that is in there...
Really sucks man...

I will chase my noics down and see if it is in the same location. I swear it is coming from the pedal, but maybe it is faking me out. If it requires droppong the trans. I may choose to live with the squeek

I thought it was the pedal, but I found out differently after laying up under the car. I spoke to my race mechanic today andhe said it would hurt anything, it just will be a little annoying.

Glad to hear that it may be a no-functional issue Clubrcr, I can live with a little annoying squeak if I have to, VS dropping the transmission. Anyone know what the approx. labor would be to drop the trans?

When I said I had been through all that I meant the research, the talking to techs and all, I was not saying I had been through all that in terms of writing in this post!
When I said the clutch was going south (mine has anyway) has to do with the fact that a clutch in 996 Turbo (without abuse) will do anythinh between 30 000 and 50 000 miles and even if the clutch is not kaput by 30 or 40k miles, if your dropping the tranny you should replace it anyway.
Hope I cleared the misunderstanding I certainly was trying to call the attention to me.

Also had the clutch pedal noise that clubrcr (Jim) has. Had an appointment today where I had them check this in addition to a few other things.
I was told that they are not going to pull the engine and tranny to pack a bearing... we had a good laugh on that one... If it fails, they will fix it. But not worth the effort at this time as the clutch is fine and everything is working...just the noise...
They also showed me the details of the CPO and the line where it states that it covers that in the event of failure... so I should be ok after I reach the 50k miles mark...
I also went in for the can-of-bolts noise and was told that it is normal noise of the tranny.
Later!

My clutch does make some squeeking noises but what concerns me is that at cold start-up in the morning, the clutch is difficult to depress. Any ideas why only at cold start-up? Once the car is warmed up the clutch is real easy to depress. BTW, the car has 26,000 miles on the odometer.
Thanks,
Adam
