Default Do I have enough boost?

Hello everybody! I recently bought a MY01 996 turbo (Tip, 35K miles, AS/black, totally stock when I got it), and went out and got the GIAC flash. It feels a little bit faster to me than before the GIAC flash, but not "night and day" difference, as I've heard others describe it.

At half throttle, in 1st gear I see 0.5 bar without trying. At WOT I see 0.8 bar boost at the end of 1st gear (in the Tip at about 45 mph), and a steady 0.9 bar through most of the upper rpms in 2nd gear with WOT. I see the very occassional 1.0 bar in 4th at WOT (when I put it in manual and go WOT in 4th under some engine load), but my peak boost is usually 0.9 bar. Is this correct for the GIAC flash and otherwise stock?

I've seen people refer to the ECU flash as a "1.0 bar program", so should I be seeing 1.0 bar more often than I am?

may have to do with stock diverters or wastegates, you should see one bar.

.9 sounds about right for your set-up. Upgrade the exhaust and you'll get some more. Also what gas are you running. This will make a difference! You should upgrade your DVs soon.

wross996tt:
Just the 91 octane at the Shell station in the neighborhood. The car feels like it's running well, just not the magic that others have decsribed with the ECU flash. I wish I were watching the boost before the flash so I would have some numbers for comparison, but I'm only paying attention now after the GIAC flash.

With 91 that is about it...get an exhaust or go above stage 2 for more...a slippery slope! Stock non-X50 car hits .6-.7 so .9-1.0 is about right with the flash for 91 octane.

Thanks to wross996tt, tkerrmd, and Woodster for the replies. I guess you guys are saying that maybe that's the best I can do with my current setup (GIAC flash and otherwise totally stock). It's a fun car, and I'm enjoying it!
