Thumbs up R&T 996 TT X50 vs Viper > 0-100-0 Shootout

I just flipped through our advertiser's copy of the August, 2003 Road & Track. They have a bunch of 0 to 100 MPH to 0 races. On page 66 is a Viper vs a 996TT with what they call an "XD50 power package".

The X50 out accellerates the Viper with a launching technique that side steps the clutch at 5000 UPM!

996TT 13.5 sec 1147 ft
Viper 13.9 sec 1186 ft

Other notables:

E55 AMG beats RS6

575M Maranello beats SL55 AMG

Murcielago beats Saleen S7

Enzo barely loses to Kawasaki ZX-9R

996TT X50 is new overall 0-100-0 King!

It should not be surprising at all that the results were as cited. The all wheel drive of the X50 along with its weight profile should render the Dodge product to a secondary position.
As for the Murcielago out performing the Saleen, again you have a similarity to the aforementioned vehicle realities. The Saleen is a great car for drivers with small 'bound feet'; sit in the drivers seat and you will understand.
Other things being equal, you cannot beat all wheel drive. As the saying goes 'Power is nothing without control'.

I haven't seen the article yet, but are you saying that the 996TT beat the Enzo?

As for weight profile, I believe the SRT/10 is 250 lbs lighter than the 996 and has a 47/53 weight distribution. There's no denying the advantage of 4WD for launching on street tires, however.

They did a similar shootout back in 1994 and the 911 turbo won then too.

No. The 996TT did not beat the Enzo. The Enzo was not officially part of the test, since the data was obtained from a third-party source and not the R&T staff.

The 996TT beat all the R&T tested competition.

The 'weight profile' mentioned in my comment is more exacting than mere vehicular weight and weight distribution front to rear [such as 39%-61%].
'Weight Profile' ALSO incorporates: DYNAMIC weight distribution based on front and rear wheel track dimensions [i.e., 58.0" front, 60.2" rear]; tire size 'footprint' for the front and rear tires; [DYNAMIC road contact area while driving]; vehicle weight overhang in all directions beyond the tire boundaries; and, DYNAMIC weight shift due to engine torquing while in a kinetic mode i.e., while driving] and wind resistance.
Porsche has had the mindset to not superficially design a vehicle in a static environment but instead has sought dynamic relationships in the synergies between component systems in an automobile and the road.
The physics of QUALITY automobile design and production is perhaps more involved than a mere cursory glance would suggest.

BFG Drag radials work excellent, as do the Toyo drag radials...

Very interesting results for the 0-100-0 test!

Did the 315/30s fit ok for you Of course you've done some fender bending, rolling I mean... Wish they had 295/30s. I'd throw on a set on my stock rears and go to the track all ghetto with mismatched wheels lol

It is truly amazing how far technology has come. It only took Porsche 9 years to reduce 0-100-0 by 3 seconds. Porsche seems to own this 0-100-0 competition every year RT performs the test.

Here is the 1994 0-100-0 results:

LOL. You just keep repeating that to yourself, Alex. Joining me up at Sacto on the 5th for a little 1/4 mile musclecar drubbing?

While I'm posting, can anyone decypher that horsepucky Bentley is posting? Looks to me like all that DYNAMIC engineering they put into the X50 couldn't help it brake as well as the Viper despite greater swept area/ton. And frankly I've never yet seen a 996 driver willing to do 5000RPM drop-clutch launches on his personal car, so I'll just keep picking on any TTs I see when I'm driving my wife's car... Err, as long as they're not Chad's car, that is

Puttin' the power to the pavement is what is important. Can't go anywhere if the connection isn't made. I'm sure that you have a good idea on how to accomplish to goal! Chad!!
