R Compound Tires
Hey guys,
Thanks for all of the replies on the PSM question I posted earlier. As a follow-up, my car will be going into the shop next week for a full check. After a hard run on the track last week in needs some TLC.
On another topic, I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for R Compound tires. I really wanted to get the new P-Zero Corsa but they have not produced the 295 rears yet and they may not until August or September.
Does anyone have a suggestion for R's in the stock sizes ?
Thanks in Advance

I use Kuhmo Ecsta 700.
225 40 18 and 285 35 18 (I believe).
That was the widest Kuhmo makes. I drive the car on the street and track, so this seemed like a reasonable compromise. Hoosiers are a good 2 seconds a lap faster compared to non-shaved Kuhmos (from my testing). But the Kuhmos were rated AA in the rain and Hoosier C (which is poor). So that is the reason I went for non-shaved Kuhmos.
You must be verrry careful with your camber and tire pressure. I ruined 2 sets of Kuhmos using what their documentation specified.
After much realigning at the track and taking continuous tire temps and pressures I found the following worked reasonably.
(1) -1.2 front camber
(2) -1.3 rear (at the max). Anything more and say good bye to the rears in 15 mins. I lost my first set of rears in 15 mins with -2.5 and the starting tire pressure Kuhmo recommended. They blistered and chunked. Then I started checking tire temps. They were 260... Way too high.
I run 24 front 26 rear psi as a starting point as contrasted with the 34 starting Kuhmo told me. Starting at 34 put the hot prssure at 54 with that camber. The max tire pressure rating is only 44 on the tire...
Oh well, a learning experience...
If you are not going to drive the car on the street, I would use Hoosiers with a 305 rear.
I really watched the tire diamater ratios front to rear to make sure it did not adversely affect PSM or ABS. Both my Kuhmos and my students Hoosiers seemed fine at MidOhio...
Hope that helps a little...
There are also Michelin Cup Sport R tires. They cost about the same as Hoosier, which are both much more than Kuhmo $760 a set. But the Michelin wear rating is 80 which is double the hardness of Hoosier (40) and Kuhmo (50)....
