Hi folks,

Most of you are probably aware of the Nordschleife (North Loop at the Nurburgring) but for those of you who may not have heard of it, it represents what I believe to be the ultimate sports-car (street or track) challenge.

The Nordschleife is the 13-mile "old" Nurburgring circuit and was described by Jackie Stewart as the "Greatest & most challenging race circuit in the world". It combines every corner/straight combination you can think of and today is the main proving ground for Porsche, BMW, etc for fine tuning the handling of their cars.

Over the years, it has evolved as the defacto measure in the European motoring press of a sports-cars' performance because it tests every aspect. Power, handling, breaking, etc are all put to the test.

Fastest ever: 6m11s, Gruppe C Porsche 956, Stefan Bellof 1983

Fastest Street Legal Car: 7m32s, Gemballa GTR Biturbo 600 ps , Wolfgang Kaufmann 2001

Fastest Stock Street-Car: 7m44s, 2002 Pagani Zonda S, Horst von Saurma, Sport Auto 2002

Fastest Stock-Porsche: 7m46s, 2001 Porsche 996 GT2, Horst von Saurma, Sport Auto 2001
