Post 996 TT Rim size-compatible with 993 C4S?

I apologize if this has been covered before...I searched the archives. Is the 996 TT set-up 8x18 and 8x10? will they fit 993 c4s? Are they hollow spoke like the 993 turbo?

The reason for the inquiry is that I am buying a 993 c4s and the owner states that the PO switched his new 996 TT wheels with his old c4s wheels...at the dealer?

Why would someone want his old wheels from C4S instead of brand new 996TT wheels? From all the info I can gather, the 993 c4s had solid spoke wheels.

thanks for the help,
Jason

The 996 Turbo wheels and tires are:

8" x 18" ET50 - 225/40-18
11" x 18" ET45 - 295/30-18

Early production cars came with solid spoke versions of these but they are hollow spoke now.

I have seen a 993 Carrera 4S with 996 Turbo wheels mounted. The car was not lowered and it looked like the tires didn't rub. However, the rears were so close that I suspect they would rub if the car was lowered. Also, the rear tire is too big for the 993 and may upset the ABS/AWD readings not to mention lengthening of the gears and erroneous speedometer readouts.

Just talked to the mechanic doing the ppi on my (fingers crossed) C4s. He said that the car does have the correct OEM 996 turbo wheels but they are NOT hollow spoke. In fact he said that PORSCHE no longer equips the TT's with the hollow spoke wheels due to problems with them when tracked.

Any truth to this?
I thought all Porsche wheels were TUV approved which means they undergo extensive and rigorous testing.

Not correct -- all 996TT's since about February of 2001 have come equipped with hollow spokes.

Your mechanic is grossly misinformed.

Actually he is not my mechanic, but one that is used by a lot of members on this board. He is in another state so I won't reveal the name. Everyone is entitled to a little mistake now and then....as long as it is not on my car!

OT, but I go to Tony Callas (Callas Rennsport) and Mark at Redline in Santa Monica. It all depends on which car.
