Post X50 turbos not K16 OR K24 MYSTERY SOLVED ?.

I like most who post here will always want more power. However; as I have foundout from owning a x50 since Jan15 its a great car but the tuners have not done a single X50, tried racers group nope, evo nope, techart nope. Ok so I decided to findout what kind of turbos I acutually have.
So I figured what the heck lets go to the top. So,
I went to the Champion racing team you the one that has Hurley as one of the drivers. If they dont know,, who the heck would. I spoke with Brad Kettler, wow !! this guy is impressive I read the #s of the turbo tags and he starts disecting the code off the top of his head and explaining what the codes mean, again he had no porsche or KK turbo books there. He said the turbo apears to be like the GT1 turbo, k16 cold side and k24 housing with some type of agressive rotors.
So I guess I'm off to IDA in NJ to have them do there magic and see what we get. Again its pretty
cool when a race team manager will spend half an hour of his time and is also calling kk in germany for us X50 guys. To bad Porsche wont tell us what the heck they put in our cars.
I suspect the car with 1.1bar and 1.2 overboost with GT2 100 cell cats will do 420HP at the wheels. Also the dyno engineer at the racers group
is another great source of knowledge and a darn good engineer, Thanks Ryan,Todd.
Next week hope to have a evo exhaust put on.
The loudest most obnoxous one they have, that will take of the idiots with there rap playing boom box rice rockets ha ha .

Jeff thats some great info. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> I am still a little confused. It sounds like you are saying they are not K16 OR K24 turbos. Also you have confirmed that the X50 does have 100 cell cats? Other than exhaust what are you thinking of doing?

Hi Duane
I plan on going to a unichip tuner in NJ Bob Ida, see racers group web page and see the garage called bob Ida. The dyno engineer at racers group said they are the most active with unichip on East coast.
Im sure after talking with the blank person for the champion racing team that the X50 is a hybrid turbo.I read the numbers to him he and new off the top of his head that it was K16 inlet and K24 housing. He said it apears to be the old turbo set-up for the GT1 race cars.
Looks like we wont have to spend money for K24s just tweak the ECU with unichip. One thing for sure Im a very happy camper now, cant imagine another 70Hp. After talking with racers group engineer and Todd at evo I feel comfortable with
1.0Bar and 1.1 overboost. Now have 0.7bar and .8bar overboost. Champion person is checking with KK turbo in Germany for me to see whats up with the rotors (not standard). I wonder if this X50 is a test bed for next gen standard turbo.

Jeff,

The combination (K16-size hot side and larger cold size rotors) is used by all the tuners in their ~540 hp packages. The actual impeller sizes may differ for different tuners but the idea is the same.

As far as I understand, GT2 uses the same setup, *not* K24 proper. Would still be interested to find out for sure if GT2 turbos == X50 turbos, but with your information this becomes a very strong bet.

You'll need to upgrade turbos to K24 if you want to push upper 500's hp. From discussions with my P dealer about IDA tuning, with *standard* turbos and exhaust you can expect 410-415 rwhp vs 340 rwhp stock. So you should see around 450 rwhp I hope

VS,
I think withe just the Unichip you should be pushing mid 500 HP. From what I have heard you can get 100HP with the Unichip whether the car has the X50 package or it does not.
It will be interesting to see what a X50 car with the unichip will do. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Hi guys
I posted the numbers off my X50 cars tubos tags.
Does anyone know or can findout what the GT2 car's turbo tag numbers read for numbers.

CJV
I think you have done alot of home work for all us thank you, given the mods and posts you have done in the past months.
How much boost are you running and do you still like your fabspeed exhaust . Did the exhaust go on ok (qaulity good), everthing matched up.
Thanks
JD

Jeff ,
I thought had decided to go with the evo exhaust. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" /> I think Chad has the RUF exhaust and came to the conclusion that that the RUF was very close in HP with the Fabspeed but had a slight edge. I am looking into a few different things and email me when I have more info. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Well I bought a fabspeed exhaust system and air cleaner from the owner Joe about ($3500) promised delivery two days. Great guy very friendly ,knowledgable. Now I need to make a Mpeg
of the car before and after exhaust ,I will try and do a high speed drive by and post it.
Next, I need to get the beast to NJ and have unichip installed but want the exhaust and air cleaner in first. This way the unichip will be optimized with the new exhaust.Hmm lets see 2 cats per bank and 200 to 400 cell VS 1 cat and 100 cell each cylinder bank, that should take out some back pressure.
This thing should sream. Also Joe is making some staight pipes off the quick disconnect off the cats,,that should scare the children and make the girls wet ha ha.

Hi Chad.....the Fabspeed 996TT GT2 performance exhaust is still at the Racer's Group. Let me know when you are heading over there and I will send ove the muffler bypass pipes for your DYNO test.

Basically our exhaust uses 2 quickrelease F1 clamps after the 100 cell German racecats. This is not shown in the pictures BUT is ingenious as any 996TT owner can have severla levels of power and loudness all in one system in under 30 minutes! Our exhaust systems has 60% less backpressure then the stock factory Porcshe system and this is why it makes 35hp more on a stock 996TT and upto 70 HP more on a heavily modified 996TT. Let me know when you are up there and if you can make a MP3 recording for me.
thanks
joe

Good News Jeff,
Let me know how much increase in performance you see with just the exhaust done.
