Post 2003 996 TT

Does anyone know if 2003 996TT will have ceramic brakes as an option? I'm last on the waiting list for 2002 with X50 but I can move it to first for 2003. I would like car with aerokit,X50, and ceramic brakes. Should I just take the 2002 car?

Are you likely to do enough hot lapping to fade the steel brakes? It's hard to see how you'll even know you have ceramics in street driving. AS

Hi,

running a 996 tt with the ceramic brakes since 6 Month. Those brakes are pretty good but yes, they
squeak just a little during moist wether conditions. Having the first runs today on a track and it seems that I can brake a little later than the 993tt and the 996 tt with the regular brake.

Hi hjp,

Are these the Porsche PCCB's? I'm curious, how have you managed to get PCCB's on a Turbo? So far I've only seen one Turbo (at Nurburgring a few months ago) with ceramic brakes. My guess was that was an Porsche ex-press car.

I've heard that they might soon be available for the Turbo. I will know more on this in a little while.

FixedWing, yes it`s the PCCB System.
I have got one of the first cars here in DE with that system. PCCB is available in the EU since early summer last year. Mention that my car is a 2001 model.

Got it! (Then I saw your next two postings which make it a whole lot easier).

It is quite possible that your car is the one that I saw at Nürburgring. It is the same colour and that was also a German car (for our American friends, DE=Germany and not Delaware )

In the last few days there have been some developments. Mine is also a 2001 Turbo bought in Belgium. I ordered it with the PCCB's and of course it was delivered with steel brakes. At the time of delivery, the distributor promised to retrofit the car. Now the dealer is telling me that the retrofit kit for the Turbo is ready and that they are ordering three kits for their customers who ordered the Turbo with PCCB brakes. I am promised the first kit.

Please tell me your driving impressions. I'm told that the PCCB's will squeal in normal use, and especially in the rain, and that the noise tends to come during the last 5 metres or so when you are coming to a stop and lift off on the brake pedal. Does this match your experiences?

How about reliability?

The funny thing is, after I saw the Turbo with PCCB's I spoke with the dealer and he spoke with Porsche AG who denied that there were yet any Turbos with PCCB brakes. That was just a few months ago.

Hi,
first of all I don`t think that you saw my car on the Ring. Just had the first run with the car on the "Oschersleben" Track which is just half way from Hannover to Berlin.
My impression from track runs three weeks ago is that I could brake a little later with the pccb (compared to 993tt and 996 tt).

And yes the brake squeaks when the brake system is could. The noise will come up exactily the last few meters before the car stops during you lift of the brake pedal. This is gone when the brake system is warm.
