Post NEW OWNER 2003 996TT....SOME ???'S

hello,

i just recently leased an 03 996 tt. i have had it for 3 days now. i really am impressed with this car. i am a viper guy and after owning 7 vipers including the srt10 i finally decided to give the 996tt a try.

i really love the car. MUCH better from a fit/finish standpoint. i have a few questions though...

1. is it really neccessary to break in the car for 2,000 miles???? that seems kinda excessive. i see ALOT of used turbos on the market w/ less miles than that. have these people sold their cars prior to even running them at full power or did they just ignore the procedure. why wouldn't porsche jus bench break in the engines on an engine stand??

2. the car is VERY smooth. much nicer feel than the Viper but where is the engine noise. this car is SSSOOOOOOO quiet.

what is the BEST aftermarket exhaust system out there and what kind of $$$ am i looking at???

3. who makes the best chip( or pcu ) ???

4. lastly , can i put the GT2 wing on a 996TT and where is the best place to get one ??

thanks so much in advance and sorry for all the questions.

regards
george

First all your answers can be found in the archives under search ... here is a quick summary?

1. YES YES YES ... break in properly, every once in awhile go hard to redline so you don't pamper the engine too much?

2. It's a bit louder from the outside but yes you need to add exhaust ... the best exhaust is made by Europipe no questions asked, exstensively tested by CJV our board risk taker!
Europipe Website http://www.europipe.be/
Europipe Distributer http://www.imagineauto.com/

3. Best ECU is very hard because many people have had success with different one's ... I suggest you do a search for Upsolute, Giac, Motech, APR, Cargraphics, EVO, there's more but I can't remember?

4. Yes you can put a wing on, best place is Gert at http://www.carnewal.com , if you want to only do the wing, I think if you buy the front end also it's cheaper let me know I'll buy the front?

I'm certainly more of a newbie than many of the other people on the board, but I have quickly learned alot about what to do to these cars.

1. I had a biturbo Audi and I did NOT break it in properly. Without getting into details, let's just say that I wish I did. Obviously a Porsche is very different from an Audi, but they are both German engines with twin turbos. If you have a TIP, you will especially not want to drive it too hard for the 1st 1,000 miles. The TIP trannies actually come from mercedes, and they like to be taken care of for 1,000 miles or so.

2. The best exhaust hands down (IMHO) is Europipe Stage II Quiet (unless you want Viper loud, go for Stage II Loud). Expect to pay close to $5000 for the system, although you may be able to get $500-$1000 off depending where you go. If you are like me and don't want to spend so much on exhaust, check out David's Version 7 and Version 8 exhausts at www.turbo-exhaust.com - definitely best exhaust VALUE for the 996TT.

3. All the chips appear to be good, and all except 1 seem to be $3000-$4000. If you have the budget, go with CJV's recomendation. If you are like me and appreciate a value, then UPSOLUTE.com is your ONLY way to go. They are only $500 and they have the generation 3 program now which works much better than the first 2 generations.

4. I don't know much about body kits and stuff like that, but I agree with CJV that Carnewal.com is a great place to get genuine porsche parts at a discount. If you don't have to have the GT2 wing exactly, I understand 9FF.de has a great wing (needs to be sanded, painted, etc...) for about $1750.

There are a couple of posters that used Upsolute and liked the mod. Being that you are in Augusta and the local Upsolute rep is in Charlotte, give 'em a try. Upsolute has a web site with phone numbers.

If you intend to drive at speed, and want to add a rear wing, then add the matching front aero as well. Porsche spends alot of money and time developing their aero packages.

Add FVD to the list of aftermarket ECU upgrades.

George,
will you be manufacturing parts for the turbo? I've bought many of your excellent products for Vipers, (99RT10) & (02GTS). You'll find the TT as exciting as the Vipers. I installed a Fabspeed exhaust, (not quiet anymore) and Stephen from Imagineauto.com reprogramed my ecu. Both of the above companies were easy to deal with, and helped with my many questions.
