Question spluttering in 1st

Just wondered if anyone had this problem.
Have picked up a late 2002 GT2 with only 1500 miles on the clock, after running and getting used to the car for the last 6 weeks i have noticed that every now and again when accelerating hard in first it seems to splutter at around 5-6000rpm. Sometimes it will pull cleanly through it and then other times it will splutter, only does it in 1st gear and will pull cleanly in every other.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Darren

In a related matter, I have felt a small (defined as a blip) of hesitation at highway speeds in the middle of the rev range. It is as if someone pressed a momentary cutoff switch that lasts a millisecond. Since the power delivery is so smooth and strong on these cars, and the G force that is created is quite great, even the smallest and most insignificant change in the G force will be felt by the occupant. It is almost insignificant and not worth mentioning but I figured I would ask. Does this have anything to do with the diverter valves?

Hi CJV could it be the rev limiter? its just that it sometimes revs through over 6000rpm then other times splutters just over 5000rpm.

The sputter you describe in the middle of the rev range is attributed to the variable cam and is considered normal.
