Yesterday afternoon, I ran over a mild bump and my hood badge flung up, hit my windsheild and flew away. Too much highspeed traffic to pull over and find it. Anyhow, I called up a local Porsche dealer to see wtf that was all about, and the service manager laughed and said, "let me guess, the bolts for the badge are in place, and all you see are two sodered round silver things on the hood now right?" He was correct. When I opened the hood, the two bolts are in tight, and on the hood, where the badge normally attaches to the base is all thats showing. He then said no dealer has that badge in stock, due to a recall for the same problem on all 996's. Is this true, or did he spank my frank.
I called a few dealers, and the badge is backordered for 8 weeks. Does anyone who installed the silver badge wanna sell me their gold one?
Thanks,
Shank

Never heard of such a recall. But try some other larger dealer parts depts, and some of the aftermarket folks for replacement. Surely there are crests out there.
And don't forget some of the salvage yards for Porsches too.
