Default Rev 1 and Rev 2

Could someone tell me what rev 1 and rev 2 means. I guess i should know but i do not . I have bumped mine off in first gear ..but haven't we all. Does the Dealership void a warranty if you have bump offs in first gear?

Type 1 over-revs occur when you accelerate and exceed the red line. The rev limiter kicks in and saves the engine.
Type 2 over-revs occur when you downshift into too low a gear, mechanically forcing the engine to over rev.
They will certainly void you for Type 2's, and will probably void you for too many (how many seems arbitrary) Type 1's.

Don't feel bad. I understand Lotus now requires a DME read at 800 miles, and if you've exceeded break-in revs, or they detect "launch pattern" revs as you would see in a drag start, you lose your warranty, even before anything breaks. I think they need to do that to warranty a track car. AS

Type 1 over revs are fine... My dealer has no issue with these as they do nothing to tax the engine or tranny... Hey even on their test drives their customers hit the rev limiters...

Type 2's are a different story... It means you downshifted into a gear to low forcing the engine to over rev as stated above.. They will void many repairs if they possibly could be contibuted to by Type 2 over revs.. You don't have much of a case to debate if you have type 2 over revs and if you do debate you won't win....

And dont forget, I had a tranny warranty "voided" for track abuse with NO type 2 over revs so you are never safe!!

That irks me Tom. Anything to avoid fiscal responsibility it would seem!

I take it that with a tip transmission it is impossible to have rev1 or rev2 violations?

Right- the tip will shift at redline if left in full auto, and also will do it in manumatic mode if you forget. It won't shift down over the red line. AS
