I think a non-sunrof panel is sold by Porsche and it's not that expensive. The expense is actually the headliner.

Agree with Khalid, there are some carbon fiber and FG vendors as well if you want to take this route, that have a sunroof replacement like MA Shaw and others, it is a great way of saving weight where it matters most, you then remove all the mechanism and harness etc.. like what ltc said. I wish I did that rather than cutting out my whole roof and replacing it with another from Porsche

The 996 roof panel is attached with adhesive and a few spot welds so it should be a lot easier to replace than it is on the 993 where you have to basically cut the whole top of the car off. Get yourself a spot-weld cutter, a hair dryer, spatula and make a weekend project out of it. The MSRP for the roof panel is $224USD and the headliner is another $1000-1500USD depending on material and model year.

the sound insallation in some cars weighs a decent amount. I took out a ton in my 944 turbo. You would have to remove the carpet, take it all out and reinstall the carpet. This is another idea! good luck with the diet program.

Tom,
The contribution of the spare to crash safety seems very minimal, and the jack and associated paraphenalia none at all. When you think of how little is in front of the driver's feet feet in every formula car or sports racer, the Porsche looks pretty good. AS
