I would try to buy the newest MY you can, but I dont feel that there are any "significant" problems with the 996TT line in general IMHO
PS I located my car on E-bay then called the guy and had no problem. If you are needing to finance then you are more limited to where you buy and who you buy from and my need to pay more

I think I will do a private party purchase with a check in hand from eloan or capitalone. I think I can definitly get a better price on a private party purchase.

What do you guys think about this one?

Can't wait to get one

P.S. Is there a gas guzzler or luxery tax in california for a $75,000 used car?

Nope, only "use tax", basically sales tax.

Call Evan @ FVD and find out more about the car.
White is rare and pretty!

Just got back from Newport Beach, CA. Porsche dealership. Had some questions to ask the service department and check out some cars. They had two Carrera GT's in stock. Damn that is a sweeet looking car.

They said they will charge $480.00 to do a full inspection for a used 996 turbo. It's a little pricey but nothing is to much for my baby (when I find one that is). I also asked what the average life span of 996 turbo clutch is, he said about 30,000 miles. They said the average clutch replacement is about $2000.00. I'm still trying to decide between the stick and the tiptronic.

Some questions for all you lucky 996 turbo owners:
Which transmission has less problems from your opinion?
Why did you choose the transmission that you got? any regrets?
If you replaced your clutch how much did you pay and at what milage did you have to do it?

P.S. Some bastard at my work has a brand new 996 (Thought it was a 997 until I found out they are not out yet.) Turbo. Damn that thing is perdy !!!

If you drive the car smoothly, and don't abuse the drive train, I see no reason why the OE clutch won't last significantly longer than 30k miles.....Mine is at 36k miles with performance mods and I expect it to last for at least another 36k if not more....

Stick shift but many have and prefer the tip, just a matter of opinion. When the clutch goes always a good chance for an upgrade

This guy posted over in the 6speed classifieds section yesterday that he would take $70K for his car that is a great price especially with the mods and the rare color.

It's a 996 turbo. It has a body kit on it and is brand new so I thought it was a 997. I'm such a rookie which is why I'm asking so many questions. I have to remember to not assume and check my facts before I post something. I found out the 997 wasn't available yet last night at a used porsche dealership after telling the sales person that I saw one at work. He said they are not available yet also after I asked him if he had one in stock to check out.

No worries, Shane. Nobody is going to bite your head off around here for asking questions.

Back to your original questions....As most people have already said there is no reason not to buy an 01 over other model years. However, I don't think anyone mentioned that they stiffened the body from 02 over 01. I don't have the exact figures. Also, if you decide to get a Porsche Certified vehicle check the fine print. They don't cover as much as the original warranty. I would consider it disaster protection.

Mine is a TIP and the reason is so my wife and daughter can drive the car if necessary. Also, with a TIP you won't have to worry about replacing the clutch and it might be a safer buy on a used car because it is impossible to over-rev the engine with the TIP but with the 6 speed the previous owner may have downshifted into the wrong gear and over-revved the engine.

That's because it's not true. The Carrera body was changed in 02 and is stiffer than the 99-01 cars. This was based on changes made to the Turbo when it was in development. The Turbo body was not changed, the part number for the chassis is unchanged from 01 to 02.

BTW he would probably let it go for in the high 60's low 70's. He just had his first baby so he is wanting to let it go.
