Default 2001 996TT vs. 1997 viper GTS?

Has anyone gone up against a 1997 Dodge Viper GTS coupe? If so, I was interested in hearing how they compare?

Stock turbo will take it to 60 mph, GTS has it above that...

Oddly enough, I ran my buddy's stock '97 Viper GTS (I have an '01 TT 6spd) and all I have is exhaust (the heavy 19" HREs don't help, either). We did a few rolling starts. Remember, he is cranking out almost 400tq at idle. He would have to let me jump in order for things to be fair. My turbo lag, while little, cannot compare to his instant power/torque. He would BARELY pull from me in all honesty. Perhaps less than a 1 car. A few runs had us dead even. I *believe* that he was stock, but don't quote me on it. It was a rather close race, believe it or not. I might have actually pulled him in a few gear at some point. It was VERY close.

Why not just run against one and then you won't be speculating. The gearing alone on the stock Viper gives it the advantage.

Default Viper vs Twin turbo

My buddy had a 99 ACR Viper Coupe which is 465 HP vs 450 of the standard GTS coupe.
The ACR was very tough competitor, and I believe it would take a stock 996TT from a roll.
A slightly modded TT (like my "PSI 480 with PSI exhaust) would have the advantage now,
I believe. This was with my previous turbo... after we did some
side by side runs up to 155 mph (on a closed course of course)
I bounced my car off the 5th gear rev limiter in all the exitement!!

Marty, get those DV's in there! Also is anyone on here running the PSI 520. The k24 ecu flash. Just curious how much quicker it is than my 480 now. I'm told there is a discernable difference.

Yeah but it can't get all the torque to the pavement. They go sideways in a hurry

It's not the same head-to-head match as a stock 996 to a GTS, but R&T's 0-100-0 test in their Aug '03 issue had the 996 X50 running against the Viper SRT-10 (500hp/525 tq)...the X50 was faster to 100 mph (8.8 sec versus 9.2 sec).

YES I DID....
it was blue one with white stripes..... the guy pulled me over on the street and we went against each other on the High way... Im not sure if it was stock or modded... but I can say that I beat him pretty good.
I, at the time had stage 3 FVD with k24s... a car doing about 550 HP...

I've handily passed many GTS coupes at the track. They are cool cars, and I love the styling and the big power. They can't really hang very well with my X50 though...especially when it gets tricky, braking into corners, high speed sweepers etc. I've taken many down the front straight at the now defunct Pikes Peak Int'l Raceway. They can be made into formidable track cars with lots of mods though.

I will be at the track at the beginning of may with several GTS coupes and I will let you
know how my little PSI 480 does against the big Vipers.
