Default Worst Modification?

What was the worst mod you've done or heard of doing for the TT? If you don't have a bad one, name the best one (bang for the buck is always good!).

PS - I got the idea for this from our NA brothers over in the 996 area...

See a lot of ugly aftermarket wheels IMO, one trend I don't get are body-colored wheels....I'm from the old school that likes shiny wheels.

Most other mods seem OK.

I don't really like body colored wheels, but I DO like black wheels with certain colors. Black, silver, white, yellow, etc.. I always hated them, but I put them on a silver car that I had, and I fell in love.

Wheels are subjective... You can't calls wheels a bad mod as many have or would change their wheels although they may choose a different style...

So "Wheels" as a mod is fine....

Something that you just don't see why ANYONE would do is what I would list here...

Like titianium lugs for a close to $500 to save how much unsprung weight?

I switched over to the ROW springs and shocks early in my ownership and never really likes the ride after the change. While it might have been a great mod somewhere with smooth roads like Az., the Chicago-area roads can be somewhat rough; the resulting increase in road harshness really detracted from the enjoyment of the car.

Best Mods...
1) GT3 seats, love em
2) Powdercoated my stock wheels black...Low maintenance, looks great
3) B&M short shifter...pretty fun little kit
4) GIAC chip....really brought the powerband to the next level
5) PSS9's (FVD) properly installed, w/ GT3 rear bar...4 clicks fr, 3 clicks r

Questionable mods: Evo Airbox....de-installed and put back to stock...caused CEL lights.

would like to hear about mods that went bad so we can all learn from others mistakes and avoid them!!
Like JP my "next mod" is the GIAC flash, will need to know in future how it holds up for track use!

Hey Tom, The GIAC has been great, especially in combination with the new plugs. It is expensive but it is also really noticeable power. I went with the little switcher box, and will probably run stock program at the track. The power is really crazy...I just can't imagine needing or wanting a car any faster than this....!

Well my "mod" schedule was delayed by 7.5k of tranny and clutch stuff. My cats and pipes are next in order then the "flash" so more like still thinking about it.
This thread would be good if we heard about EVERYBODIES bad experiences then us the actual consumers could decide without bias.

Let ya know Shark

Happy New Year to all!

Top 3 Best Mods:
1. ECU Upgrade - My past GIAC was pretty good and Love my current FVD
2. FVD Race Exhaust - Finally found my perfect exhaust, a lot of turbo spooling noise, very loud at WOT but no resonence at any RPM
3. FVD PSS9's - Love the look lowered and improved handling night and day!!

Top 3 Questionable Mods:
1. Gemballa Front Bumper - LOVE the look, but expensive (6K) and fit isn't perfect
2. Gemballa CF Hood - Again LOVE the look, but exensive (3k) and fit isn't perfect
3. FVD Yellow Guages - LOVE the look, but light is not even coming through (not very noticeable and I have gotten used to it, but when I switch out of the 997 and get in mine I notice it...)

Top 3 Worst Mods:
1. Fabspeed Exhaust - I am a young kid and couldn't take the resonence (not to mention quality problems).
2. MA Shaw GT2 Wing - Still on my car, was just a POS and took a lot of work to get looking good, but it does look pretty good now...
3. X54 Tips - Middle piece always looked like crap after a few miles, too hard to keep clean and I actually like how the stock one goes with the lines of the bumper openings better!!

Worst Mod; first ECU re-program. It was fun to point the car in a straight line and hit the throttle but it had terrible power characteristics and was nearly undriveable at the track and actually undriveable at Autocross. Power was very abrupt and had an output curve that was zero to hero in about 500 rpm. I will not name names as it was very early on in the 996TT modification game and I'm sure they've learned much since then.......All I can say is be careful and ask to look critically at any dyno curves they have before buying. And get expert opinions......

Aluminum pedal covers.

I installed the dead pedal and clutch before I realized how silly they were and took them off.
