Default Comparing: Ruf 550 vs Others...

Looking for opinions from those in the know...How does a Ruf 550 hp upgrade compare to the 600 - 640 hp upgrades offered by other tuners? Especially the drivability and torque ranges. All inputs and experiences are much appreciated...thanks.

I had a 2001 TT with Ruf R Turbo motor. I had 520 hp (DIN) version (K16's) and the car was very fast, faster that other K16 conversions. From 80-120 I killed several buddy's who claimed to have 600hp. I dyno'd the car at GIAC's dyno and it made 505 hp (SAE) and 567 ft. lbs of torque. The torque power curve was almost identical to stock, just a half inch higher on the graph.

It was faster than my stock GT2. I now have the GT2 with GIAC software, Europipe, Baily's, K&N air filter. It is faster than the Ruf 520 car.

My experience with Ruf was excellent. The driveability was great and the power curve was outstanding. I didn't do Ruf this time as the Euro is not in our favor at the moment, making the Ruf conversion very expensive comparted to the options.

My experience with GIAC etc. is very good as well. However because I don't have enlarged intake, that Ruf includes, I don't think I have all there is to gain on my car. Can't go wrong with Ruf - as it is one stop shopping and they offer a lot of performance.

Since you already have the exhaust you might as well go with GIAC controller, Baily's and an air filter. You will be very impressed with the increase in power over you stock Turbo S.

Good luck!

Bobby, since you're in the east, call up Neil at OrtonUSA and inquire about the PSI 550 package. It is very comparable to Ruf in terms of sophistication, reliability, and power.

I agree with looking at the PSI 550,
was the 505 hp to the flywheel? (on the RUF 520 kit),if so, what was registering to the wheels?
what conversion was used to calculate loss?
thanks in advance!
The PSI 550 comes with an intake kit also
The FVD, and Cargraphic kits in that range (FVD 575, or the Cargraphic 542),
do not include any change in intake plenum. all four of these kits appear to be very
strong. (RUF requires that they install it which may or may not be an "advantage").
IMHO.

The Ruf 520 numbers are based on GIAC's conversion of approx 25% loss to wheels. They have a 4 wheel Mustang dyno. Numbers at the wheels were 404 hp and 454 ft. lb of torque.
