Kevin, since I have owned 5 Vette's and the last 2 Z's, I know where you are coming from. The Z is very fast...the tt is also very fast, but oh, so refined Translation for me...goodbye Chevy, hello Porsche!

When I drove the x50, it was really "fast", but when I drove the "normal" tt, it seemed, well quicker...Either way, you will notice a difference between the Z and the Porsche in refinement, performance, handling, and exclusitivity...good luck on your decision!

Is there something about 01's which I haven't heard? Aside from early production cars with front bumperettes (warts) and solid spoke wheels, I didn't think there was anything else special or to be avoided.
Could you please elaborate further?

As for the RMS, given the fact that a 996TT/GT3/GT2 are all derived from the GT1 block, there have been far, far fewer RMS issues when compared to the 986/996 block. I only recall seeing 2 or so GT1 block RMS issues discussed here on rennlist.

If you have any intentions on doing substantial track time, the GT3 is the obvious choice. It is actually quite a daily driver as well, but is very impressive on track.....it's probably the best all around in the 911 family since the 73RS.
Depending on your driving style, you may find that the PSM on the 996TT is quite intrusive on the track and the AWD on the 996TT does have a tendancy for understeer, understeer, understeer. Safer that way I suppose, but the Lamborghini Gallardo is AWD and is quite a balanced ride.

Best of luck with your decision.

get a ride in a chipped/exhaust tt non x50. I think you will find it is quicker than the z06. The tt handling is much easier to drive fast and you can stiffen it up to handle better without being kidney crusher. The thing I like about my TT tip is even with the chip and 480 hp under foot I can stomp it any time expect a predictable safe outcome. Blast off with no nail bitting slides. I know sliding can be fun but it can also kill you on tracks with lots of walls. The TT rules. You won't be dissapointed. The best advice I can give you is buy the nicest one you can afford. Might also pay up slightly for extended warranty if you are not going to mod it. Lots of good cars for sale around here and six speed. Good luck!

Hey Kevin, almost everything discussed here voids the warranty ....naahh, just kidden.

Really comes down to the type of dealer you have in alot of cases....and the relationship you have there......but at the end of the day, only way to be 100% safe is don't touch the car.....no fun in that .

BTW.........I'd take issue with the idea that you can not dial-out almost all the understeer on a Turbo.
I have.
