996TT Evolution Stage 1 Feedback
I hope some 996 TT owners who have upgraded their vehicles with EVO products and tuning could provide some feedback. I am considering an EVOMS stage 1 with flashloader. Nothing more than ECM tuning, air filter and billet diverter valves. I realize this will void the warranty... if they find it. EVOMS claims it is undetectable by Porsche with current service tools and the only way to find it is thru a test drive because it will read 1.0 bar. I am going to get the flashloader so the stock program can be flashed for service calls. Question 1 : can the ECM tuning be found? 2: will billet diverter valves be a flashing neon sign to the tech to look for further upgrades? 3: does it work, is it instantly noticeable when driving? 4: does it affect driveability or reliability? 5: Any CEL codes? Thanks in advance for the response. Kevin

kevin they will notice the diverts at once, if the dealer is cool no worries... they found mine and it only took the diverters off warranty. who cares the stock diverters are of little use anyway.... have a unichip which i took out when the car was at the dealers.. you will notice a bigggggg difference after you flash do it you will love it.. have had no code problems.. the car is way slow without these mods... steve

I have the evoms stage 4 on an 05 turbo S. So it has the diverter valves, flash, evoms air filter, headers and muffler. The only issue that it has caused is that the dealer would only replace the maf electronics once. Otherwise all warranty is still in effect.

I jumped straight to the stage 4 GT/R and recently up the the 700 GT, just to complete things. I've had no issue with my dealer. I trusted them with the installation. If an OEM component breaks and is unrelated to the mod, you should be fine with warranty. That's been my experience.

my porsche dealer in sacramento told me that a computer change would void the warranty on the motor and related parts better to error on the safe side... i would flash but return to stock when going in for warranty work ... you can just reflash to stock . in my case i just remove my piggie back takes 10 min.... steve

I have stage 3 on both race and street TT's and have not experienced a single problem with either car. I've also installed 2 other TT's with the EVO/GIAC stage 3 and they run fantastic.
Driveablity is very smooth and the power is unbelievable!
Sorry I can't vouch for stage 1 but I would believe it would be a good step above stock.
Happy Evo customer,
Rick

Dock,
I haven't changed plugs on my race or street TT yet. My street TT has 8,200 miles and the race car has 8,000. The street car has 2k miles with stage 3 and the race car has 1,000 miles with the stage 3. I use 93 Shell in the street car and Sunoco 104 Plus GT in the race car.
I did have to replace the plugs in a customer's 12k car, it was an '01 and had the old Beru 5's. After the change the car runs perfect!
I'll be changing the plugs in both my cars over the winter as a preventative measure.
Rick

you should notice a big difference with the flashed ecu. the car just pulls so much harder. I told my dealer about the stage II, and they did my exhaust for me. They get a kick out of all the stuff I've done to my car. My warranty is expired, so it doesn't really matter, but I went in right before it ended to do the 30k check, and they said they'd take care of any problems that might come up. I guess it just depends on the dealership.
Your plugs should run a good 20k miles, unless you have an 01 model year. Then the flash will probably expose the br5 plugs. Once I had them changed it ran better than the day I took delivery. 22k miles and going strong!

Marty,
The 2001 cars used an older type of plug. When you do your 30k mile service, they will be swapped out for the new stylie. If you decide you want to upgrade the ECU prior to that, you will have to change out the plugs.

Thanks for all the responses, but I still have 1 question unanswered. Evolution's tech department claims their software is UNDETECTABLE with current Porsche service tools. Has anyone who has a flashloader and has returned their programming to stock for a service call been confronted by the service department? BTW, how difficult is a spark plug change for a DIY, I got a quote from an independent shop for 600...seems kinda steep. Thanks , Kevin
