Am I a Girly-Man?
Hey guys:
This TT is my third 911 (but my first TT) and I absolutely love the car. But I have to admit that I typically shift at 3000 rpm, I rarely get the rpm's over 3500, and can can count on one hand the number of times I've hit 5000. Am I alone in this wimpy style of driving? Should I be reving hire before shifting? Am I driving like a Girly-Man?
I'd liketo get a sense of how you guys drive your car.
Thanks.

g-man start exercising your right to bounce it off the rev limiter (once in a while).
Seriously though, I know those new Twin turbo's have gobs of torgue down low but,
get your foot in it and join in the fun, you need to see the far side of 6000 rpm! I do
everytime I drive mine.
Cheers G-man,
Marty

oh come on, some of you are being too harsh.
in my gt3, around town, 3000-4000 shifting is fine. when i really get on it, i shift a few hundred before redline.
the TT has loads of torque down low, but letting it run up the rev counter is part of the sports car experience.
i just got back from a trip to china, where most of the taxis are manuals, and shifted a few hundred RPM above the idle RPM (to save gas).

When just accelerating out under part throttle (something other than WOT) my EP 2 Loud has a really nice sound between 3800-4200 rpm (of course it sounds good at other rpm's too) - I can tell you when I hit that rpm just by ear, without looking at the tach. So under normal driving conditions (after my car is warmed) up I shift there unless "something else is going on". I do try to make sure "something else is going on" every drive I take...

The operating manual says to not drive below 2000 RPM. It sounds like you are a lot of the time. I have been getting into the habbit of driving at 3000 RPM minimum (a lot of the time). I could be a kook though.

In normal street driving I try not to let revs fall below 4000...upshifts generally between 4500-5500...and for more "spirited" driving its 6000 plus. Yes, the guys are right...step on it a little!
