I agree 100% with adsc4s: The 993tt is not a good daily driver wheras all of the 996 products
are (I also have had both). But for weekend/evening/fun driving my modified (not inexpensive)
993tt fits like a custom fitted glove and drives/handles like it is custom fit for me!
Can't go wrong with either but if I were to daily drive there is no question i would get
a 2001/2002 996 TT.

cheers,
Marty

I've had both as well, I guess I need to say the 993 was not a Turbo it was a C2. I second all of the comments on the air conditioning. No contest the 996 is WAY out front there. Also be aware that the passenger side footwell on the 993 TT and C4S is shortened to accomodate the brake booster. As I recall the TT and C4S used vacuum boosters (for what reason I don't know) that were located to the footwell for space reasons. The 993 is a smaller car in all dimensions, the cabin is pretty intimate for two.

But, I think someone had the correct response earlier; you're looking for an objective answer to an emotional question.

Good luck!

996 TT is a much better daily driver. It is slightly faster and rides far better. It has more room and feels more comfortable to drive. It is a surgical speed weapon, with less sensation for "experience" for the driver.

The 993 TT is more engaging to drive, is still extremely fast, is seeing no depreciation at this point, however maintenance will likely be higher going forward. It is a great car.

The GT2 is extremely engaging, not a very good daily driver (clutch too stiff for traffic and the ride is poor on bad roads) and has depreciated like a rock. However performance for the money it would appear to be a great value. 2003 Silver black one in LA times last Sunday 835 miles for $142.5K. A Boston Porsche Dealer has a blk/blk one with 3,800 miles for $129.9K. Clearly much more expensive that the other two, but if you only drive once in awhile this is a really fun car.

If you consider the GT2 you have to consider the GT3 as well, which is a great car and with them trading in the $85-$95 range they fall in line with newer 996TT in price. They are much more engaging to drive and not likely to see as much depreciation.

I have owned 993TT, 996TT and now GT2. Loved them all. The 996TT is the best all around of these three. The GT2 is the fastest, but most expensive and the 993TT is the most sought after, as seen in the strong pricing!

Good luck with your decision.

Not true in my hunting experience. 993TTs are depreciating still in the "driver" car class (30-50k miles). They can be had for $60k, and are still creeping down. I expect that after the 997TT is released this Fall, you will see actual selling prices at $53-$55k in the Spring as I think many 993TT owners will jump ship for the "retro" look.

I expect 996TTs ('01s with 25k miles at $72k now) to fall to the mid $60s at the same point.

Try checking actual prices on autotrader. 993tt prices have acutally gone up in the past 3 months, to like high 60-low 70's... Of course, after the release of the 997tt that may change, but maybe not...
Like the hemi, the acme of aircooled porsches may continue to appreciate, especially given the limited number of units that were produced...

I like your optimism but the 993 tt's were not produced in limited numbers and ACV is dealer straight buy/ trade in based on Kelly blue book (w-coast) not autotrader blue sky retail.

Just did, there are 2 993TTs within 20 miles of me with ASKING prices of $64k & $66k (both have 40k miles).......so you can bet your a@# I could get one or both for $60k. Plus, "Rufus" and "Waldo" were both sold for UNDER $60k. Of course, if they had better names maybe they would get top dollar

Not saying they won't appreciate eventually, but they haven't hit bottom yet.

No doubt 993tt will depreciate. But you still see 1979 930 going for around 30k.
The 993 was built in much smaller numbers than the 996 whose prices are dropping quicker. A difficult decision to make as the consenus seems to be that the 996 is a better car all around. I just have to pull the trigger here and make a decision.

Bd,
I know what you are going through. Everything considered, I should have interest in a 993TT. Great performance, great looking exterior, last air cooled model, can get one for $60k, etc........but every time I get near a 993 I'm struck by how old fashioned the interior looks, its just depressing. I'd spend $10k adding stuff until I felt better about it.
