I had to have mine replaced...the car was still under warranty, so the OEM original didn't even last four years.

Is there any reason to replace the slave when doing the accumulator if there is now leaking/overflow in the ps resevoir? My tech confirmed accumulator needs to be done and said slave should be replaced also.

It is common to replace both accumulator and slave...since the parts are cheap, you have the system drained and it's a bit of a PITA to bleed slave cylinders.

Yeah I had my slave/accumulator done at 18K miles in 2005 on my 01 TT. Just in the last month the heavy pedal is returning on morning start up. I am now at 50K miles. Oh well thats what the extended warranty is for.

I don't think the pedal being a little heavy at cold start is a big deal...I personally think people get these replaced way before they are actually bad...to each his own and I'm sure the stealers love the business...

Whats the danger of waiting once you have the heavy clutch with the car off? I assume eventually you will start leaking pentosin either near the accumulator or at the power steering resevoir? Any signs of 'ok now I really need to fix it' before that point?

My tech told me that the accumulator is only there to hold pressure for cold starts. Once the engine is running, hydraulic pressure makes the clutch pedal light. I wonder if it really needs to be replaced at all.

My point exactly Larry....if you can put up with the hard pedal at start, you are good to go.

if the slave goes bad it will force pentosin out of the powersteering resevoir, any signs prior to that happening its bad if you already know the accumulator is failing?

GT2 COnversion will happen on my car this fall when the box is out for a rebuild.

If you want to find out what the pressure feels like, jump in a gt2/3 and press on the clutch pedal... yes, it is mildly stiffer than the TT (but what pedal isn't?) but you will have consistant clutch actuation every shift and get rid of the pentosin BS for good in the tranny portion of the hydraulics.

After 2 accumulators and two slaves in 2 years, I'm pretty much done with this mickeymouse system...

just an fyi, my dealer here in dallas said there is a 2 year warranty on the parts if they do it. Dealer is going to be a couple hundred more but if thats true may be worth it (if doing accumulator and slave, cost with labor is over $1k).
