Default '03 X-50 Market

Just looked at an '03 with x-50 and 9,600 miles. Asking $114K. What's the right price for this very clean well optioned ($149K MSRP) Porsche Certified 996tt?

NADA says: Trade In: $90K Retail: $98K

Thanks in advance for your input.

Fred

Is it a cab? 149K (msrp) seems high for coupe.

My 02X50 had a list price of 146 with only a short option list(paint to match cost 3,000)
There is nothing which duplicates the performance at a comparable price. Some X50's may go cheaper, and those buyers will have a huge bargain. If anybody knows the final X50 production number, I'd be very interested in learning it. I don't think there were many. As a blind guess, I'll offer 300. AS

You might better add in the X50 option in which the NADA doesn't show. Even low balling the option it's still adds another 5K or so to the price. It's more like 96K/104K. I would even pay a bit more for the X50 option in a low mile '03. I think it's worth it. Certified should bring another 3K too.

Thanks,
Ted.

Ted, in doing a search on x-50 I read a post that suggested that dealers give nothing on trade-in for the x-50 package and try to jack up the resale on the other end - the best of both worlds for them. I don't think they should be able to do that - and NADA seems to confirm that. Others who have traded in (or tried to) their can inform us about this.

Thanks for your responses.

$114K? Hunt down an '05 Turbo S coupe in a low-demand state. . .car will probably sticker at $140-150K and you may be able to get some money off. At that price, it's worth it to spend $10-20K more for a new one.

IMHO the price is just a little high. . .$95-105K seems about right. Remember, on trade, the original owner took a bath on all those options. See if you can contact the original owner, find out what he got on trade, then offer the dealer $3-5K over that.

I just sold my mint '03 with 1,400 miles for $93k. That price is way too high. Even $98 is high as you can blow away the X50 with a $500 chip.

Hey color change...I drove my X-50 (non-chipped), and a standard 996TT with FVD chip, exhaust, etc. back to back at Buttonwillow....I got news for ya buddy, at WOT the chipped car didn't even come close to "blowing away" the X-50. The boost in the X-50 comes on just a millisecond later, but when it hits, it pulls noticeably harder.

The X50 FEELS faster becuase it has larger turbos, but in reality that FVD car your drove should have been making 80+HP more than the X50 car... Obviously the larger turbos will FEEL faster, but Colorchange is correct a chipped car will beat an X50 (and run about even with a GT2 for that matter **IN A STRAIGHT LINE** ).

Although I agree price may be on the high side, this thing had a 150K sticker, i.e. LOADED!! What was MSRP on the 03 you sold?

"Chipped" hp is an advertised number that means little until confirmed on a dyno. However when you chip you car, you lose the warranty. I see no liklihood of ever getting a chipped car certified.
What does blown away mean? 99.99% of us do not take our cars to the dragstrip. On a road course, 99% of your lap time comes from driver skill and tire stickiness. On the street, you might or might not be able to feel a little more thrust in your back, but you are so far over legal speeds that you risk losing your license to find out if a chipped car blows away an X50.
For those who have never driven one, nothing else on the street could. Outside of Coral Gables or La Jolla, if you own an X50, you will never meet anyting faster from 70 mph up. From 0-70, there are a ton of modified Mustangs, Camaro's, and other modified cars that will EASILY beat our cars, because to duplicate their launch performance will destroy our driveline.
Color talks a good game, but it's just talk. I'm still waiting for a driving exhibition from him. AS

Is that correct? I thought the extra HP came from different tuning, not larger turbos. Some clarification would be very much appreciated.

Fred, clarification on X50...Although the factory has always been tight lipped, it is generally known that the X50 has bigger, K24 turbos, larger intercoolers, remapped ECU, steel syncros. The motor is GT2 spec., and like most Porsche estimates, the HP rating of 450 is likely conservative....I put on a fabspeed quiet, and the Bailey DV's....The car pulls like a nitro burning freight train....at any altitude.

If there is a big difference between my car and a normal 996TT chipped car, It is lost on me....

Thanks, that helps. Someone posted somthing about differnent spring weights, and a sales guy today said the brakes are bigger though dealer speak is often erroneous. x-50 is sounding like the car for me. Now finding one in the right condition, color and price...well you know.

I looked at 8 996tt's today, only one was an x-50.

neither spring rates or brakes are not different on the x-50.

Steve
