NEED ADVICE ON 2001 PORSCHE TURBO
#19
just check out the car in person. other than the repainting of the rear bumper and gt2 wing. Everything else looks great. a few rock chips. nothing too major. He said when installing the gt2 wing the rear bumper was damage, so they repainted a new rear bumper does that sound funny??...He would take 61.5k. nothing lower ...still too high huh??

If you are new.....
These guys are giving great advice......Anything north of $50,000 would be unwise IMHO.......It is not just the frequency of service, but how it was driven.....Really think you would be taking a flyer on this Porsche irrespective of 16 mos. warranty...Usually it is not best to buy on price alone with a Porsche, unless it is brand new

the owner is a 60 year old guy.. and he drives the car very lightly. He has very nice cars mercedes etc. He states its an everyday car for the past 5 years. If I were to bring that car in CA, do you guys think it would have a better chance if I ever resell it? Im think in the 1-2 next years (with 71k miles) i can still get 56k for it. Losing only a few k which i would probaly loose anyways if i were to buy a lower mile one.
Still thinking about it.. THANKS EVERYONE!

With AS as well.
50 for the 60 year old guy. It will be a tough sell when you want off.
60 sounds O0oold....getting close, myself, and I drive the pants off of everything I own....within the confines that the vehicle was designed.
Let's see PSM off/click first on the wheel/stand on the brake/ stand on the loud pedal/wait for .3 boost and -->

Now if you go to sell it in two years, I think you would be talking about $45k or so. I think the bottom for these cars should be about $40k.

Supra,
Ultimately cars are emotional, not logical. So get what you want. My only point is that unless you alter your mindset to allow you to walk away from it unless you get a great deal, you wont get a great deal. Mid 60's to mid 70's will result in a greater economic loss in 2 years than the new car depreciation on a Corvette.
The 60 year old owner thing is meaningless. I'm 56 and drive pretty hard. The most insane driver I know is 83 and continues to race wheel-to-wheel. Cars can go a lot of miles (Porsche estimates "the life of the car" for a tt at 250,000 miles). But, the best 60,000 miles have already been taken out of this car.
If the most important thing is what it looks like, I have no advice, since I just don't understand that. If you buy the car, keep the board posted on your experience. Lastly, the aftermarket chip can be a negative when you get a CEL and the dealer blames it on the chip. You will be a long way from the shop that installed it. AS

The more I read about this..the more I would stay away from that car..it seems like trouble waiting to happen. But think on the positive side, if you buy it and it's a POS when you replace with a good one you'll really appreciate it!

Thanks for the great advice AS. I'm definitely going to wait to see if I can get a better price on it. If not, im walking... The chip is not a performance chip. He told me the chip in the dash was sent to germany for modifications so it would be less sensitive for the check engine light to go on. (due to the exhaust) It was all done though the porsche dealer. I will keep you all posted if anything happens. So what would be a fair price 56-59k? Thanks.
