Do you have to cut a hole in the deck lid over the new air filter?

No mods to anything. This is a direct fit.

My Gruppe M cone style intake complete with its cold air "ram" style intake lost 10hp on RS Tuning's engine dyno on my 993tt compared with the stock air filter set up. A GT3 stye cone had the same results. Apparently the Gruppe M 996tt cone ram air filter gives the same sort of losses. Why would your filter give the opposite results on a 996tt

For several reason such as the design of the intake pipe. It increases velocity with the 6 inch venturi on the inlet. Also your filter is in the back of the motor. This is not. The two systems are no where near the same in regards to feeding the turbos. If I also recall the inside of the Gruppe was not finished off which would cause turbulence.

Not sure it would have any difference at all.

Stephen - The lower horizontal edge of the air filter "box" doesn't appear to have any rubber seal associated with it. What keeps hot engine air from being drawn in from this area below and behind (towards the back of the car) the air filter?

You are correct there is no seal in this area. That area is rather tight. While some air may get in there, the amount is certainly overcome by the amount forced down the inlet channel.

Stephen,

The ad says, "Internal Ventri Technology". Is that supposed to say, "Venturi"?

Just out of interest, is there a reason there's no seal in that area? Is there no room between the intake and the car body?

Probably for the same reason it is not on mine. Not enough hours in a day to get it all done. The pictureis from the press release.
