Default Update...5300 Miles in 86 Days

With 5300 miles in 86 days of owning it here are a few observations about the Turbo S...

First...absolutely the best car decision I ever made.

Second...Europipe and X73 the best mods decisions made (thus far).

Finally...now the car and I seemed to have formed that perfect union where she does exactly what I want her to do...most times even before I've thunk the thought.

Pierre, if you're reading this lookout as I'm catching up fast on the mileage with yours .

I'm reading, yep! Congratulations!

But instead of surfing the web, you should go out for a drive! I'm at over 203'300 km now... Oh, and I was in Germany last week-end: I couldn't push it to top-speed, but 300km/h (indicated) is still no problem at all for my grand'ma.

BTW, I've been offered the loud version of the Europipe exhaust at a very nice price. I'm just a bit reluctant to install it now, since I can see the 997 TT coming in slightly over a year from now. And if it's delayed or if I decide not to take the very first series, I might go for a power upgrade which would require another exhaust anyway... (http://www.juergen-alzen-motorsport.de/ would be my choice)

Greetings

Well, Bobby, you've got me beat- 511 miles in 7 days. I wonder what the true hp is on the Turbo S, because it clearly has more than 29 hp on my last Turbo. The racing tech at Boardwalk told me that the hp was understated at the claimed 444, and without data his guesstimate was about 475. I saw one dynograph with about 400whp, which would put the car int the 475-500 range. Still in break-in, I'm for the most part taking it easy, but when I've hit it, I've seen mostly .9 bar, sometimes .8 or 1.0, and twice 1.1 and seat of the pants these numbers seem real. This is by far the best car that I've ever owned based on initial impressions.

Question is, to mod or not to mod. The car is a beast outta the box, and given the rarity of '05 Turbo S Coupes, I'd hate to mess up a special car. If I do anything, it'll be mild tuning from a reputable company that has the resources to back their work.

A friend of mine dynoed his TT X50 and got 481 HP. Unfortunately, I don't know how much torque...

I dynoed mine back when it had only 107'000 km. Got 424 HP and 591 Nm.

Greetings,

AJ, Pierre...my thoughts are that the Turbo S does feel quicker than the earlier X50's ( I wrote about this on some board after my first drive on the S) and since then it just keeps getting better. After the Europipe and X73 it seems even quicker still and now I regularly see .9 to 1.1 bar...thing is surely a beauty and a beast...sings to me every time we hit an open road. Cheers!

Bobby, beast is correct. My '02 TT was a fast car, and having driven an '02 X50 as well, I'm pretty amazed by how hard my '05 pulls. Can't wait until after break-in when she loosens up and runs at full-tilt.

Mine's broken-in and I've opened her up a bit already. It felt so good and well worth the agony of driving it below 4k's. My turbo S still stock with the ROW suspension but I've already installed the GT3 rear sway bar and the hardened motor mounts before I took delivery. Today I'll be running with the Porsche cup cars in a parade from a local hotel to the track where they will race during the F-1 weekend here in Bahrain.

When any of the Turbo S guys get a chance to weigh their cars on accurate scales (four pad racing scales if possible) how 'bout post the results. If you can, weigh the car with a full tank of gas (for standardization).

Will do that and post the results...whenever I find the racing scales hopefully at Lime Rock in a couple of weeks.

Justin, thanks. Earlier I had some apprehension that the ride would be too harsh but really there isn't much diff in ride quality yet the handling is vastly improved...not to mention that at 128mm ride height it now looks "respectable".

Bobby, I'm afraid to report that you won't find public scales at Lime Rock. "Back in the day" you could get your car weighed on the NASCAR scales at Pocono and Watkins Glen, but those scales are sadly no more.
