Crippled GPS

Within 18 months of purchasing my 2001 turbo the factory effectively crippled the installed GPS by halting the issuance any new update data disks which are the essential ingredients in a working Nav system. The move to a fibre optics system was incompatible with the 2500 or so systems that had already been installed. According to Navteq the vender of the disks, approximately 15% of the information on the disks becomes obsolte each year. It is typical for car manufacturers to make available, for a price, updated disks that will maintain the functionality of the Nav systems previously installed. In addition to the factory's insensitivity to it customers on the updates, they have turned a blind eye to the errors in the software that causes the machine to crash when accessing certain addresses. Their logic is that it is not a warranty problem because they did not produce the data disk. If it came installed in the car and has Porsche written all over the label then it is their baby.

I can see why Porsche wouldn't want to stand behind this but I don't see how they can succeed. I suspect you will need to get lawyers involved. Curious, you didn't say what solution you were looking for?
