Default Short Throw Shifter

What short throw shifters are out there for the 996 TT and which one is "the best"? Is it a do-it yourself install? If so, does it require any special tools? And lastly, what could one expect to pay for it?

Thanks for your help

There are several short shifters available. Do a search here on B&M, TechArt, and Ruf.

I have the B&M in-car unit. Easy self install.

I have the factory setup. 1st to second was very "notchy" initially. However, after 2,000 miles 1st to 2nd is acceptable and the rest of the ****s are short and smooth. Also, no noise or vibration. It get better every week.

What I want to do is put the 997 OEM kit in my '02 X50. It appears to be the smoothest. There is some controversey over whether it will fit an '02. The only numerical difference in the OEM part numbers is the first 3-digits, 996 vs. 997, all others are the same. Some cable changes were made in '04 but everything else appears unchanged from '02. Anybody have any idea if the 997 kit will work?

Thanks,
Ted.

No the 997 setup is not the same. They will not convert over. Sorry.

FWIW the factory setup is made by B&M. They change the colors and add the markings. What is funny is when we all first bought our TTs we all ran out and got the B&M. Dealers across the country said warranty voided on tranny. Then they came out with their shifter. Hmmm
