2003 X50 2nd gear popping out
#22
I had a friend with an 03 X50 - he had the exact same problem with 6,000 miles on the car. Kept popping out of second gear. He took it to Newport Porsche and they told him it was fine. A week later it popped out and would not go into any gear. He towed it back. They dropped the transmission and called him and said no warranty, due to abuse. They state the tranny had been speed shifted causing excessive wear on the syncros and that had resulted in the failure.
He had never abused the car, however he bought the car used, so they said even thought Porsche had a know problem "he would never get warranty". They said $6K or come get your car!
He asked to speak with the Porsche Rep (at my recommendation) which he did. The Porsche rep told him he agreed with Newports assessment the transmission was abused, most likely by the original owner and "since he was not the original owner" Porsche had no obligation to him even thought it had a known problem.
He paid to have it fixed and traded it in the day he got it back on another car and vowed to never buy another Porsche. Here is a guys who has been driving a Porsche for 20 years and never will again. Ashame how the treat customers sometime.

its a synch roll. I had mine replaced 2 years ago. however, porsche doesnt want to willingly change the trannies that easy anymore... They r forcing the mechanics to take it apart b4 any warrenty approval..... whereby the regional rep shows up and its up to him. NOT GOOD. i saw with my own eyes last year 3 trannies declined by one regional rep alone. same issue ... same problem.
they r looking for excuses to void warrenty... B&M SHIFTERS... if u have one.. take it out b4 u go in for inspection. trust me...
