Default Rear tire wear

Do your rear tires wear evenly?

My first set of tires (Pzero's) the passenger side rear wore a lot faster than the driver's side. When I got new tires (Pilot Sports), I also had a 4-wheel alignment done because the dealer told me that the wear was due to alignment.

Well, I have about 5k on these tires and the same wear pattern is showing. My alignment is good (or should be).

I have seperate wheels and tires for the track, so this is just street wear and I don't do real hard driving on these tires.

Is this normal? Should I have something checked? Or maybe I just need to rotate them?

Thanks

Do not assume that the dealer alligned the car correctly. Always instsist a prnt out of all specs BEFORE and AFTER.

What was the camber and toe setting on the rear wheels before and after?

I've been told that the drivertrain should cause the right-rear to wear 1mm more over the life of the tyres than the left-rear. That has also been my own experience.

Scott,
My rears (P Zeros) wore more or less evenly. The rears did wear much faster than the fronts especially on the inside of the tread (expected). I had to replace the rears at 7500 mi. Is the rear right tire wearing evenly across the tread or is the inside wearing much faster. If so the camber may be out of specs.

Thanks Stephen. Mine seems to be slightly more than 1mm though.

MBailey, The inside is wearing out more than the outside on the rears on both, but the passenger side is more than the driver side.

I had to replace at 7500 originally too. It looks like i'll get more out of these though.

Thanks for the help gang... anyone else experience this?

My right rear was worn a little more that the left. I did manage to get 19,000 very noisey miles out of the Pirellis. Since the fronts were still good, I had to go with Pirelli rears.

I have my print out from when tires were put on and I had the 4 wheel alignment...

Left Rear Camber
Actual: -1.5
Before: -1.4

Left Rear Toe
Actual: .17 deg
Before: .08

Right Rear Camber
Actual: -1.4
Before: -1.4

Right Rear Toe
Actual: .18
Before: .18

Rear:
Total Toe
Actual: .35 degrees
Before: .26

Thrust Angle
Actual: 0.00 degrees
Before: -0.05 degrees

I didn't type in the fronts b/c I think it doesn't matter. Let me know if I am wrong and you need to see fronts.

Thanks Dock. I wonder why I'm getting the uneven wear.

The only two things I can guess?... 1) Your driving technique/style loads the tire more, or 2) The rear left/right weight of your car is asymmetric.
