Default Faster rev-up for downshifts?

Hi all. I have a strong suspicion that the programming for our cars
is purposely tuned to make the rev gain slow when you put on the
gas with the clutch in. When I am heel-and-toeing for a down-shift,
it seems like I have to mash the gas pedal down a lot, and then wait
a long time for the motor to spin up and match revs, as if the flywheel
were from a tractor...
Is there a way to get a really quick motor response for a faster
downshift?
thanks
Joe

Or maybe I just figured it out: Maybe this is just the worst-case scenario for turbo lag...

Not my experience Joe. My habit is to skip gears on downshift too.

It is a heavy engine and it doesn't have a really light flywheel. I think that is just what you are feeling. An I-4 engine would be a better revver. Ditto a race engine with a lightened flywheel.

No way it is turbo-lag. You would never get into boost with the light throttle settings and short throttle blips you are using.

One possibility could be bad diverter valves. If they are gone then that could have that effect.

Why not get a lightweight flywheel?

I guess the new 997S with its "sport" setting improved the throttle sensitivity. I would guess that might help a little. I've not tried it though.

You are saying you think the throttle is more responsive under load than with the clutch in.
I don't know all the factors controling e-gas.......but the 996 (of course) does not blip like a 993.
