Default 01 Turbo parts swap opportunity.

So I've come across a Turbo for sale in my area that has a ton of mods. It looks like it has a transmission build, turbos, legit GT2 bumpers and tail, GT3 calipers among other things. He says it has a damaged leaking head, probably a blown head gasket though. His price is low at $45,000. I'm thinking about buying it and swapping over all the parts. If it has a legit GT2 transmission build it would be a steal. My transmission is in great shape so I could swap it over and all would be good. I could sell off what I don't want and return the car to box stock. I would have to fix the engine but I'm legitimately the only guy who can do that within 500 miles of Boise Idaho probably. It looks like a track rat that no one is ever going to buy.

Good idea or no? I'm pretty happy with my car and would like to keep it for the long run. A built transmission would be a real plus for me. Swapping over GT2 body parts would be cool as well.

if you have the time...i think itd be worth it.

All those parts alone that you want would take along time to procure so being able to scoop it up in one shot does sound appealing.

if it still has the spare and the tire is good would you sell it to me? :P

Looks like a solid buy to me.

If I had the time... I'd do it.

It’s been for sale for a long time. I’m in Boise as well and was looking for a 996 Turbo for the last 6 months and that one has been showing up on and off the whole time. The pictures never actually being in Boise seemed kind of weird but maybe they’re just old. I don’t think he ever noted any issues though so that must be a recent thing. I think he was at like $65k or something at one point.

I might be interested in splitting it with you. You can buy it and swap all the parts off it and I'll buy what's left. Might use it as a training ground for rebuilding an engine on one of these?

For it to be worth it I'd want to turn it back into a nice car and sell it for near the same price. Still the engine repair would cost thousands even with my labor plus getting the body parts painted, my car is silver. There is a black rear deck lid on ebay. Still thinking about this. I just finished the Blazer build and I'm kind of tired of working on stuff at the moment.

I've seen it for a while as well. Someone must have taken it in for a PPI and found that coolant leak.

If those are actually OEM GT2 front bumper and deck lid what are they worth?

What makes you think it has a GT2 gearbox?? That is highly highly doubtful.

Listing says it is rebuilt with stronger PMNA internals. I would want to see a receipt for that of course.

It’s either the deal if the century or too good to be true.

Looks beat to ****. May be worth it, but you're gambling on the trans cause you can't see it. You have to value it on what you can see/verify. IMO it's not worth the ask for sure especially with motor problems.

By the time the dust settled on my GT2RS gearbox, it was $40k CDN - yes, good value there for sure.

For the OEM GT2 stuff, front/rear/all parts, it was over $25k USD from Suncoast, that included, freight, taxes, import duties

It looks like whoever had it first spent some serious money on it. UMW stuff isn't cheap, for sure some really nice parts. That indicates that the transmission might be legit. I think I'm going to go take a look at it at least. It's poorly represented in the ad but if the body and paint are all nice it might be worth it. Maybe he has some documentation. It's obviously seen some track time but that doesn't make it worthless.
