Going from the 996 to the 993 made me realize the difference in the new cars compared to the old. The rarity, build quality and prestige in the older models just doesn't exist in the 996 or the Boxster, perhaps due to them being oversold?

If you're looking for a car that would be a hoot to drive and a pleasure to own, as well as being depreciation proof, may I suggest a 993 TT S?

The SL65 is no doubt a very fast car, but it is heavy and considered a old mans car. Will it be a daily driver? If not I would chose the Ferrari in a heartbeat, especially coming from a GT-2 and make it a 6 speed manual, none of that F-1 bitch-tronic BS , I'm sure the SL65 would pull away from the ferrari in a straight line, but slap a Tubi exhaust on the ferrari and the beautiful sound you hear on every trip to redline will more than make up for the lack of straight-line speed. Ferraris have never been about numbers, they are art in motion, with an aura that no other car maker has, period!

These figures would tend to contradict that assertion:

BMW has been closing the gap in 04, but Mercedes is still outselling them. Personally, I think the current BMW designs are truly ugly across the board. With Mercedes winning in the looks AND performance dept, I can't imagine that BMW would be able to hold onto any lead they might establish for long.

I like both brands personally, and have owned both in the past. Both cars gave me equally pleasant experiences both on the road and at the dealership and I would buy either one again. Design wise, though, BMW is just doing nothing for me. I took a look at the 6 series and there is no way I would pay $80k for that thing. I really don't see the new BMW's aging well at all. I also find that they're *not* growing on me as I see more of them. I think the biggest disaster is the 7 series, but the other models aren't lagging far behind.

I would go for the 360. I heard this one is going for a very low price.

In answer to the original question, I am more of a sports car guy, so the Ferrari.

Going from the 996 to the 993 made me realize the difference in the new cars compared to the old. The rarity, build quality and prestige in the older models just doesn't exist in the 996 or the Boxster, perhaps due to them being oversold?
Huh? We must have different perspectives, I don't know of any old Porsches without problems -- and I sure as hell don't understand the "prestige" factor.
