I had a car fire years ago and this is the right decision. Was a nightmare dealing with repairing it.

This is not a criticism, but the speeds will be much higher that you realize and so are chances of an accident. It isn't the speed on the straights, it's the speed through the corners where things can get hairy. You can't really take it easy because everyone else is going to be flying around. Hopefully you will have an instructor with you for the first few runs? If so they will help you get settled.

Buy track insurance and drive your car like you stole. That is what everyone else will be doing.

It's just one car at a time for a few laps per go. It isn't really an official type of DE event or anything like that, just a local small track putting it on, "time attack event" as we call it.

Have fun.

I use the SPA Firesense Technique system. It has two nozzles aimed at the driver and 3 into the engine compartment. I also have the Element stick clipped onto the roll bar within easy reach of the driver. The video posted above of the Element stick is used in conditions that the instructions specifically advise against using. It's really designed for use in enclosed spaces where the Oxygen can be snuffed out. On a windy day open fire it will NOT work as demonstrated in the video. One has to use common sense in their expectations...
