I sold my Daytona Cosmograph and now wear a Blancpain Flyback. Much nicer in my view, thinner, lighter (mine is Titanium) and more legible day or night. The display back showing the wonderful Piguet movement is also a plus.

A thread about a GT-3 turned into a watch duel! Amazing. Too much money and not enough time, that's why we keep trying to buy it! Personally, I have worn a Daytona, Submariner and latest a Yachtmaster. Now I am wearing a G-Shock. I'd hate to be killed over a watch.

A watch duel? Be happy I haven't joined... Seriously, it doesn't hurt to deviate from the topic for a tiny bit every once in a blue moon. Now, back to our regular programming... Ron, still thinking about a GT3?

If you put PSS9's on a turbo and lower it, you will be riding the bumpstops and high speed stability will suffer along with other handling characteristics...Solution: Motons with H&R spings...

I'm hanging on to my TT x50! I have too much fun with it. I know the GT3 would be a blast, but I really enjoy the torque to TT has. You need it when you have a milk run to do for the wife!

I have no money for a watch. I spent it all on the car and track days!

rockitman, i don't know about TT, but i had PSS9 on 996C4S lowered. it was not riding on bumpstop and had very little bumpsteer if any compared to my 993 on PSS9. IF i am confined to only moton and PSS9's, i would take PSS9 for street and moton for track.

I know of two guys who had the ROW PSS9's on there TT's and their cars lowered to GT2 spec. Both said they were riding on the bump stops and it was causing issues at higher speeds(constant steering corrections required)...One has just replaced them with motons and H&R's and is having the car aligned today...It will be interesting to hear his impressions...

Does anyone know how a 996TT with PSS9s at mid setting compare to stock?

I got a chance to drive a Turbo at Willow last week and it was a very interesting experience, as it's the only other 996 model I've driven besides the GT3. You can definitely feel the torque advantage but you can also feel the weight disadvantage with the Turbo. The GT3 and Turbo feel like two totally different cars, with the GT3 feeling way more intense. I never really pushed the Turbo, as it wasn't my car, but from my brief experience with it I can say, around the track the GT3 is the better/faster car. On the street the Turbo may well have the advantage, as I imagine it requires far less from the driver to pilot quickly, where the GT3 will be bucking, snorting, scrambling for grip and stepping it's tail out - but that's what I love about it.

Really comes down to how you define "Sports Car".

rockitman, i see, i didn't know it was lowered to GT2 spec. that's way too long for the PSS9 and perhaps the spring was too soft hence hitting bump stop and causing instability.

my current 996C2 with moton is slightly lower than GT3, just slightly. other than some squeaking noises, it currently outhandles the GT3 by a significant amount. please have your friend chime in when he's driving his new setup.

Point 1: Rolex Datona in stainless is worth every penny of the $6500 price, but don't overpay for it, it then becomes not worth it.

Point 2: Nicely tuned 996TT (X50 or not) is a better track car than GT3 simply because you dont have the flexibility with the GT3 like you do with the TT. Simply put the TT can be tuned with suspension and brakes and be faster than the GT3. You can then add tons of power with some simple bolt-ons and be MUCH faster than a GT3. As for the GT3 itself, you can do suspension and brakes, but the cost/benefit equation doesn't work out so great on a car that has a pretty stiff suspension already. But the difference comes in the power dept. it would cost you a whole lot to make not a whole lot more power in the GT3 whereas the turbo is one $3500 chip away from 500+ HP, i dont think this is even attainable in the GT3 at least if you plan on keeping its street capabilities intact

There is no way any Rolex is worth what they sell for. You are buying a watch. A much more reliable and accurate one could be had for $20. Jewelry is rarely a good investment.

Check out how much it's worth here

The GT-3 is a superior track car. The TT is too heavy, even with 650 HP (which would raise reliablity issues)

Sorry

1. a car with lots of hp doesn't necessarily mean it's a good track car.
2. if it's hp you are after, get TT, not GT3.
3. if it's balanced track car you want, get GT3, not TT.
4. if you are nuts, like me, maybe get both.
5. suspension in the GT3 is NOT stiff. it rolls a LOT on track.
