Yes, gold tape is a very good heat shield. Our cars use bypass valves, just recirculated back into the intake. This is just an HKS valve. It's loud and vents to the atmosphere. You can vent them running the mafless tunes.

Yes, similar to stock, just not recirculated and one versus two, plus it's much louder. The HKS is also a pull versus push valve.

 

Agreed - where'd you get/make this?

 

Manthey racing used these on their high hp builds. This is commonly referred to as the Mathey intake. A friend of mine makes these in Germany in his factory at the Nurburgring. Not cheap but very elegant and we have shown gains on the dyno. Probably not worth it unless you open up the intake pipe first and are above 700whp.

 

I have one sitting in my garage somewhere if you're still looking for one (burnt out far too many Bosch MAFs and decided to just go back to stock airbox, so it's lightly used, but may be a bit dusty). Not sure whether it has all the pieces you'd be looking for (I don't recall the mesh air filter cover you can get with them), but the box itself, the filter, and the rest of it should be there. Can double check later today or this week and send along details.
