legal high speeds on northeast USA public roads
Some weeks ago someone asked about whether there were any high speed events (like the Nevada open road events) in the northeastern region of the USA.
While these are not long continuous drives at 150 mph +, there are some places where you can legally get your car to 125 mph + indicated on public roads, although hard braking for the next corner will then be in order.
In Pennsylvania there is a hillclimb series:

Roll bar, fire extinguisher, 5 point harness, window net, drivers suit required.
(I was under the impression that a cage was required, but I did not find anyplace on the site that says so.)
I believe Giants Despair in WilkesBarre is the fastest; Duryea is the only one of this series I have attended (and that in 1988).
For hillclimbs in Vermont:
http://www.hillclimb.org/
No roll bar or cage or drivers suit required if car is basically stock. Cage required otherwise. Fire extinguisher required.
I have driven my stock (except for chip and tires) 996 turbo to an indicated 126 mph at the Okemo hilllcilimb in Vermont. Burke and Bolton Valley also have places where over 100 mph indicated is possible.
If you want me to reply to any of this, best to also send email to mwilson@juniper.net since I seldom actually look at this forum.
