Transmission bell housing repair
Having a welder local to me repair a crack in the bellhousing of my transmission. Does anyone know the metallurgical make-up of the 996 G50 transmission case/bellhousing is, i.e. what filler rod should be used?? All aluminum or some kind of magnesium?

The welder should be well aware of what to use.

As you are in Langley, and if you really want to know the make up of the housing, you could shave a little metal off of it and sent it over to the SGS lab for analysis, that will tell you the make up.

I am not aware of the metal content of the transmission housing being printed on it but my engine case has the aluminum alloy designation "ENAC-AlSi9Cu3(Fe)" stamped into it on the right lower side underneath the part number. You can see it here. This is on the Motorsport engine case. FWIW, Porsche makes the dual oil squirter engine cases in Spain while the Cup/RSR engine cases are made in Germany. I do not know if the street engine case or the gearbox has the same alloy makeup but my guess is that if not the same, they would at least be very similar.
Here is the detailed chemical composition and properties breakdown:

Handy, and, much easier than my suggestion.
