Hi Porsche People,
Been away for Porsches for a three years. Wow the price changes!
I am looking at a 2005 Turbo S. It is a one owner with 89,000 miles. And it is an automatic which I need...bad knees (this happens to a miler past 70 years of age!) .
Do I remember correctly, this car has no IMS bearing problem? I think I remember it can have hydraulic cam tensioner issues?
Also looking looking at a 2007 Cabriolet, with 40,000 miles and an automatic...but not sure I want another cab?
All comments and suggestions are appreciated !
Thanks, Grant in Georgia

No engine issues whatsoever on a 2005 Turbo S. It's the bulletproof Mezger engine, several of which have gone past 600k miles without ever being touched. You'd.have to do really nasty stuff to it to hurt it.

obviously you'd pay a bit of a "premium" for the "S" iteration but if that's what you want. go for it. i know nothing of the reliability of hi miles tip/m benz transmissions so i'd look into that. by comparison, i had to refresh my MT box for bearings at 80k miles. but i do know that hi mile 996 turbos well maintained are reliable marathon runners. mine hit 172800 today. flawlessly if not cosmetically lol.
good luck. a 996 tt is exactly what you need to not "feel old". works for me!
