Default Front license plate question...

Hi guys silly question but...
id like to use these square holes to mount my plate but I cant for the life of me see how to feed anything through them from behind. Im sure you dont have to pull the bumper for a plate... what am i missing here? I saw some square push in screw receivers at the parts store but they're def too big.

You can use a little plastic expanding bolt, should do the trick.

A front plate mount that attaches to the front bumper (in those two holes) came with the car. You can probably order one.

I think the Porsche mount has rubber that presses into the holes and that are expanded with a screw in each plug.

Giant wood screws will not work. There is nothing back there to screw into, it is just empty space.

Dock is correct. Buy the OEM Porsche front license plate mount kit. It is three parts. Two mounts that slide into those square holes. The mounts expand when a screw is put through them and the third piece is the plate holder that attaches to the mounts. The parts are maybe $40. Well worth the money for a proper install.

Please for the love of Stuttgart don't use wood screws haha. I despise even OEM front mounts on my cars, full disclosure I am lucky to live in a no front licence plate state but every time I take one off there is always some level of paint damage behind it.

Have you looked into the "hidden" mount type ones that mount underneath I am not familiar with the specific options for 996s but I'm sure a suitable solution exists.

Edit: there are some great front tow hook mounting options too it looks like. That is probably what I would use so you can unscrew it whenever you want.

Then, just bore out the inside for your plate bolts, and viola! No chewing gum needed...

I hate those nasty holes, and the oem parts are fine but essentially they are just square expanding license plate nuts used on many vehicles...

The stock parts provide the needed spacing to accommodate the curve in the bumper cover.

Get the correct Licence Bracket Spacers, they will match the contours of the bumper
