I have been hunting around and have not found anyone who has done this. On the new race cars the windshield wiper (single arm) parks in the center of the windshield and wipes a very good area of the car. I have seen several 996 GT3 endurance and rally cars that have the same setup. Does anyone know how we could convert our cars to that setup? I know on the air-cooled cars things like this can be easy'ish.
It looks like many of these guys are running just the drivers side wiper. Some appear to have just changed the arms mounted position when parked. Is it that easy? These are picture from the web, and there are many videos as well. Anyone have any ideas?
This has been popular in the VW world for a long time. You need to modify the wiper linkage (lengthen one of the segments) to get the correct amount of sweep.
Do a Google search for "VW mono wiper DIY" and it should turn up a handful of sources.
Something to consider is the rain tray. The way it's shaped on these cars won't allow for a wiper arm that does a full sweep of the windshield, so you'll to either remove it or create a modified version.
Easy. Remove the passenger wiper and clock the drivers side so it's up near the middle. It will still perform a full sweep. Lots of people used to do this.
