Hi Everyone,

So I am getting our 2003 996TT into VERY capable hands....

Replacing the Rads with aluminum, screens for the front, welding the coolant pipes, sparks/coils etc.....

Anything else to do when the engine is dropped.

I don't have time or the experience to do it myself right now (or for the next year...LOL) so any suggestions to accomplish while the engine is dropped?

Thanks! She goes in to the shop in 13 days!

When I had my engine out service a couple of years ago, I asked the techs to look over everything and replace what was needed. They did just that. I assume your techs will do the same.

So what you're really asking about is upgrades. Now for that, how much money do you have to spend?? 🤑

May as well get inlet tubes done new ic hoses silicone or rubber. Thermostat along with coolant tank. Update power steering fuel filter. Replace all the old nylon vacuum tubes rubber bends plastic pieces and all the valves that can leak change them out if they havent been done recently. Change your diverters out if theyre diaphram or service them if theyre aftermarket. If i have to do something and i have access to something else i change that since im there.

IE: changed my sparks 3 months ago, i have to pull bumper and seal an ic bracket, sparks are exposed.
gonna swap the sparks out anyway.

This, and while mine was out, I added a new water pump, injectors (stock) fuel filter, belts, hoses (top), voltage regulator and probably other stuff I have since forgotten.

All the rubber and plastic stuff like people mentioned, from there it really depends on mileage/age of things like the accumulator/slave, etc.

What do you plan to use the car for, and how long do you think you'll keep it?

If it's not leaking, I know some (e.g., Kevin) disagree with this.

Hi folks,

Great tips! He is going to go over it and anything that needs replacing he will do. Car has 50K on it and will be keeping it for a very long time. Primary use is a fun car/daily driver but not every day.

Replace all the vacuum lines and the valves that they attatch to the parts are about 150$. Nylon tubing is 3$ a meter and the rubber bends are 5$ a piece ( can use thick coolant hose if youre cheap like me ). Have him ziptie EVERYTHING on the vacuum system, use nylon weather tite zipties they dont melt in high heat and pre treat all the hoses , zipties and all the lines with 303 aerospace. I let a s belt sit overnight soaking in 303 7 years ago for my jeep and it has no signs of weathering sitting out in florida heat.

If you can afford it, replace everything thats 3 years old or more.

If you were feeling REALLY outgoing, you could upgrade the gearbox 1st thru 4th with 2011 GT2RS internals.
