Default A question of airbags...

I went up the valley today to see if I could help a buddy of mine that has a well optioned 2002. A little while ago, he tagged a parking abutment and ignited the drivers and passenger airbags, but not the side ones. They were replaced, but recently the airbag light came on. So I took my Durametric out and lo and behold, there was an airbag warning. I erased it, got a green check mark, let it run for a few minutes, turned it off, and when the ignition was cycled, the light came back on.

I suspect the part isn't correct. Are their model specific airbags over the 911 line?

Cheers,

To really help you with this, we need to know the specific code. It could be a specific fault with an airbag, or it could be a sensor.

And I, of course, was thinking it was simply the same issue I had when I canged my wheel, so I, of course, did not record the code.

Impact sensors, clock spring, bags, seat belt retractors and all usually need to be replaced. I would guess they replaced those items?

I was wondering that yesterday - even though all the airbags did not fire, would the retractors have to be replaced?

The impact wasn't great, rather a sudden stop.

I suggested that; unfortunately it has been too long since the fix, other things could be happening - like as noted above, a loose connector.

The body shops I know have lifetime warranties on their work. Got to love it when a shop doesn't stand by their work, time to write a, um, "glowing" review.

Yes, it'd be nice....

We are starting to see more shops warranty for life, but it is in no way the norm north of the border.

If it didn’t throw a code for some time after the repair my bet would be the seat belt receptacle.reciever.

Mine turns out eh airbag light and seat belt system light. These cars are notorious for the drivers seatbelt having a connection issue and it turns off the airbags. They wont want to go on if the seatbelt is not on. I have my cars 4th replacement seatbelt latch for the drivers side. Just need to put it in. So maybe check this? Just a thought.

Yes, I am thinking to go in first, and check all connections after the fix, and go from there.

Cheers,
