Default Cobb Question

As I mentioned in a previous post, I was pleasantly surprised to see a Kline exhaust with 200 cell cats. Thats a nice $3,500 freebee that I didn't know was included. The car also has the X50 package, which I did know about and PCCB brakes (I don't think they make the car faster .. lol).

I don't think it's tuned as I haven't seen boost go above .7, but then again I haven't pushed it supper hard either.

A fellow board member is getting a Cobb V3.

How about a overall thumbs up or thumbs down? How about estimated HP? I think I would be in the 550 area...

I would think that a well tuned x50 car with exhaust @ 1.0 bar should be in the 525-550hp at the flywheel...more likely with 93/94 octane vs. 91 octane.

I have a non x50 car, with Kline exhaust and custom Cobb 1 bar tune set up for 100 octane. Probably not 550hp, but certainly around 500 with big midrange torque coming from those little K16s.

2 thumbs on on the Cobb from Sam @ By Design.

It looks like they only have a stage 1 tune available for the X50 option....

Yeah, Cobb only has the basic tune for an X50...not a great choice when upgrades are almost always certain to follow!

Not to worry, I'm pretty sure that Sam @ By Design could whip up a custom x50 tune....he did wonders with my spicy high octane k16 tune.

Cobb stage 1 and 2 is very generic. I would pay the extra few hundred and get custom tune from a reputable tuner

Cobb OTS tunes are great. Custom tunes even better if needed, but yes, more than a "few" hundred extra.

If you are only seeing .7 bar, you have some work to do before you even consider a tune. Time to do a boost leak check. replace the fuel filter if it hasn't had a known replacement, same for plugs and coils, make sure the boost control and wastegates are operating correctly, check for codes, etc.

Then consider a tune, but .7 doesn't sound right for a perfectly sorted X50 car even with a stock tune.

A stock x50 car should be .9 if I remember correctly, so I would bet you have a leak somewhere.
so get that fixed first then fresh plugs and maybe even coils and fuel filter too, then look into a tune.

.9 boost is good to go. No reason to check anything. Enjoy.

Carlo is usually spot-on in his advice, but I'll disagree with him on this one...

The Turbos can usually overcome some boost leaks and still show .9 bar on the gauge, but have much slower response. IMHO, a boost leak check is absolutely essential as a regular maintenance item, as well as the plugs/coils/fuel filter previously mentioned. Boost leak check is also easy to do once you know how...
