Not surprising. Car ran over a big tree. Front tub and suspension mounting area is a big job. Car required being disassembled, put on a Celette rack to measure and pull back to square. It adds up quick.
Right side drove thru and shattered the tree, left side went up and over pushing the left front shock tower up, lifting both upper and lower frame rails and tweaking frame.
Not to mention the complete trashing of the front radiators and everything behind the bumper cover.
It looks minimal at first glance but once the onion was peeled, it was conclusive this car should never be back on the road.
I was rounding the curve, driving into a low sun, tree is in a low spot in the road when coming around the curve and the road was dappled in shade from the trees adding to the camouflage.
The picture misleads on the distance from the curve to the tree to a degree. It looks like a longer stretch than it really is.

Damn. That probably scared the crap outta ya when you hit it!
That car will definitely be back on the road via a unscrupulous car dealer/flipper...I've seen a lot worst put back on the road. Too bad, with the rare white 996TT with that interior is definite sad to see it salvaged. Glad your ok.
Anybody have access to IAA Auction prices? I would be curious to know what it went for.

Its the end of the road for my 996tt. Hit a dead tree that fell in front of me. Tweaked the frame and that was it for this car. All panels and running gear are excellent.
This is an insurance auction, nothing in it for me, but in case anybody is in need ….
