Default CDR23 radio issues

So today on the way back from the auto-x I fired up the old radio. I have 1 CD in the actual head unit and 6 in the changer. The changer was only registering 4 CD's, it wouldn't recognize CD's in the #2 and 3 slots. It also wouldn't cycle off the CD changer to the single disc in the head unit itself.

Is this thing fubar? I was planning on installing a double din Apple car play unit at some point but wasn't going to do it in the immediate future...

I know, right?

That stuff is quite a bit cheaper than I expected. I'll also need the adapter since I have the MOST/Bose system in my car but I think those are $1-200. How's the Metra surround compare quality wise to stock?

The Metra fit kit has excellent fit and finish IMHO... Very OEM looking. And at only $20, a bargain! I can't imagine why someone would spend $150 - $200 for some of the other trim kits out there.

It's really two different functional components, the upper section which has the bezel and brackets that allow mounting the double-din radio, and the lower section which completes the trim around the relocated HVAC controller and replaces the CD tray with a cubby. Kind of clever for them to make that lower piece which effectively replaces two different OEM pieces and is less fiddly to fit.

I'm not currently using the lower piece as I have a custom panel in the upper portion of the lower slots, but did use it for a while and it fit great. If you don't use the Metra lower portion, you will need to order a different bezel for around the AC controller. 996-552-339-00-01C, about $8 at discount parts providers. You can also get the OEM cubby replacement for the CD holder.
