Fly and drive. Picking up a 996tt tomorrow.
This is going to be an epic trip. One that my kids and I will (hopefully) talk about for a long time. Tomorrow afternoon we are flying from Denver to Prescott AZ to pick up a 2003 996TT. My 11 year old son, whose automotive passion has somehow surpassed my car addiction and 9 year old daughter who is following in his foot steps. Car has 52k miles, guards red manual with some modifications and most importantly coming from an enthusiastic pca home.
Here is a little background....actually a long one.
Bought my first Porsche, guards red 1980 911SC from a meticulous owner in Phoenix in 2005. My wife and I were just married and had moved to Denver. We made an amazing road trip over two days.
Then a 2001 Boxster s came into the garage a few years later from New Mexico.
That car was sold because we had twin girls in 2009. To be replaced by a 2003 c4s speed yellow. that was my first fly and drive with my son, he was 5 years old. Put blizzaks and a ski box on top. Best ski shuttle ever!!! Still talk about many ski trips to winter park. one dad and three kids ripping up berthoud pass to ski.
In 2015, that was sold to make room for a 2005 cayenne turbo from a fellow rennlister in Illinois. Another fly and drive I did solo. This time I took the fast way home because a gorgeous 2009 triumph scrambler was picked up along the way in Kansas City. My family knew about the cayenne. But you can’t ask for family permission to buy a motorcycle.
That was sold last year. After 4 or 5 months of searching, we are now one day away.
I will take the same long route as I did in 2005 with my wife. Visit Grand Canyon, take pics in four corners and enjoy a great trip back home with kids. Wish me luck.
here is a teaser pic from the seller.

Congrats
Congrats!
I did an epic road trip two years ago when I bought mine. Philadelphia to Houston. Not exactly down the street.... Good times with stops in DC, Macon and New Orleans. I wish I got to do that once a year. A smile from ear to ear.
Cheers, Mat

Congrats and safe travels. For me, road trips are fun and make special memories. I’ve done a few , most recently picking up my 996tt in Littleton and driving it back to Texas.

Awesome story, congrats on the car. I drove the GC route a couple of years ago in a large diesel SUV - so envious you get to do it in a light, quick motor. Enjoy!
