Default Rear spoiler deploy fault

Hi there, a friend of mine has a 996 turbo and is getting a fault when the rear spoiler deploys on the hydraulic rams, sorry if this is common but can anyone steer in the right direction , he's been told hydraulic rams could be leaking ??

If he's getting the fault but the spoiler is working normally, there has probably been some fluid loss from the system (most likely a very tiny leak). It's a sign that it may fail soon, but hard to predict exactly how soon. A bunch of people have had good success bleeding and refilling the hydraulic system to buy year(s) of good use. The other options are to get new or used hydraulics, disable them so the spoiler just stays down, electronic rams, fixed rams, or a whole new decklid/spoiler.

Within those options --> talk to Kevin at UMW.

Something for your friend to read: https://rennkit.com/why-factory-set-fails/
We can help with a permanent solution that allows the wing to go up and down as designed.

As mentioned above, if there is a small leak you will get the fault, this happened to me. After messing with the leak and topping up the hydraulics, mine lasted about 12 months. After that my left ram failed. Basically put, I wanted to keep original functionality so decided to replace the ram kit - This is not a cheap option, managed to get the part from a Porsche dealer nearby @ $2000.00 - the install was pretty straight forward, but the $2k part bill stung a bit

Ask him to look on the bottom of the hydraulic ram caps see if there is any hydraulic oil! If so you definitely have a leaking ram! Fluid is low!
